    Braves offer Glavine contract

Braves have offered Glavine what is believed to be a 1 year deal.

The Mets are expected to counter and probably offer more money to Glavine but Glavine has stated before he wants to be close to his family who lives in Georgia.

I wouldn't mind seeing Glavine return for a reunion tour.

"We did make an offer and they said they would consider it over the weekend," Braves general manager Frank Wren said, a few hours before agent Gregg Clifton sent a counterproposal to the team.

It was unclear if the sides were going to continue to negotiate Friday night, but a deal sounds imminent.

"Hopefully by tomorrow, I think it's a good possibility," Clifton said. "Their proposal was a good starting point in terms of negotiations, a positive step."

I'd love to see Glavine back in a Braves uniform. So i'm all for this. He's not the pitcher he once was but I think he'd be a great leader and teacher for the younger/unproven pitchers on the staff.

It would be funny as hell if Glavine were to pitch against the Mets in an important game next season and beat them.

That would be such bitter irony.

Thank goodness, I can't wait for him to be back where he belongs.

His tenure in my eyes will always be remembered by that last start (and his lack of reaction afterwards).

The Braves likely will formalize their long-awaited reunion with left-hander Tom Glavine on Sunday.

"We've made significant progress throughout the day," Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, told FOXSports.com on Saturday night.

Glavine, 41, is expected to sign a one-year contract in the $8 million range. He earned a total of $10.5 million with the Mets last season, but is willing to give the Braves a discount to complete his career in Atlanta.

Maybe Glavine tanked that game on purpose? That would be sweet.

We already know he's slime-y for representing the Players' Union, heh.

Glad to have him back as a third starter. Now go get Dan Haren too!

Even though he doesn't have a lot left, this is a pretty good move IMO. A top three of Smoltz, Hudson, and Glavine should be good enough to make a playoff push with that solid offense. They could always use more starting pitching (as anybody could), but this is surprisingly a good move. What have the Mets and Phillies done to their rotation so far? Nada.

                      It's a done-deal. 1 year, $8 million.

I like how he took a paycut to come back. Gives us a tad bit more flexibility to throw around to fill holes and sign guys to extensions.

Awesome. Going out a Brave is the way it should be.

I'm actually gonna miss Tommy. Sure, I'm still pissed/sick to my stomach whenever I think about his last Met start. But he was a professional, seemed like a very classy guy, handled himself well in NY, and got his 300th as a Met. I know he is a Brave at heart, but I hope he enjoyed his detour through NY. When he steps into shea next year, though, he will be heavily booed and I hope D. Wright and the Boys send him back to Atlanta with a loss.
