I would be surprised if the Padres don't make some kind of effort to get him.

They should. He was at his best form down in San Diego. Local kid/"star" comes back home.

You could just interchange parts of Pavano and Prior.

Prior has a hamstring problem? Switch his with Pavanos. Now Pavano has a sore shoulder? Switch his shoulder with Prior's.

Eventually, we might have a situation like in the Nicholas Cage/ John Travolta movie Face Off, where Pavano now looks like Prior and Prior now looks like Pavano.

I'd sign him. Worth a shot.

            Good riddance Mark.

I wish they would have let Wood walk as well. I would like to completely move on from those two.

I'm a little disappointed, but it had to be done. Best of luck to him in SD, just don't beat the Cubs.

I am kind of glad that he is gone, too injury prone.

Me too and I wish Wood would have as well. The quicker we get rid of those two the better as they have been a nuisance to this team more than they have helped for awhile now.

I like. At least $1 million for only a year. If he flounders or can't pitch, no harm. If he is healthy enough to pitch, I think he'll be a hell of a fifth starter.

While no rotation is perfect and not all five starters will make it through the season, I think the Padres put together a better rotation than what they had the past season with Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Greg Maddux, Randy Wolf, and Mark Prior. At the very least it gives the team a little depth.

I wish we would have gotten rid of both of them back in 2003 when they were worth something, now its offload to save our team.

As Dan Shanoff wrote, with a contract like that, the Padres can almost expense it to their advertising department. If nothing else, it will get people to want to watch him pitch in his first game. Especially for a hometown boy. Good signing IMO.

That is definitely an above average rotation. Jake Peavy is straight filthy. I wonder how he ranks among some of the game's current aces?
I also think Dbacks are building up a good rotation. Webb/Haren are a sick duo like Peavy/Young, and the old-man Randy is just as good if not better than old man Maddux. Getting Mark Prior into the mix makes it even better.

I hope Prior makes it. I loved watching him with the Cubs on WGN when he was healthy. One of my favorite pitchers.

Dont worry man, now that he's not with the Cubs any longer he'll revert to his 2003 self and fullfil his promise.
