"But if you automatically jump won't there be times that you should have jumped and didn't, or that you did jump and it hurt you?"

no it only dives when the player is within a certain range that he can make the catch...this just makes it to where you have to know your players abilities...like how good he is at diving, you can run after that bloop hit to shallow centerfield with someone like Jim Edmonds but if you try it with some lard @$$ your not going to make the catch...or if it is a hit to the gap and you can run and make a diving catch with Tori Hunter but if you take the same route to the ball with a fielder that is not as good the ball will drop and go past him...this feature just makes you need to know your players abilities and make sure you take the best route to the ball so it doesn't drop and go past you

I believe you saw the "Fielding Aid" option. That doesn't include diving...at least thats my take. With that option on, once you get close to the ball (a few feet - scalewise) the CPU will automatically take over. WSB had it last year.

I agree. This should be left to the user to control. What's next.. auto-fielding like WSB had for the Dreamcast.

Autofielding is not a good idea and I doubt that's next. I'm sure companies are aware that gamers want to control the fielder, at the very least.

However, I still think you guys are lookin at this wrong. I think we are so use to havin to press a button to dive or jump that when it's taken away we feel somethin about us has been removed.

*inside thoughts* Oh, I remember the time when it was the bottom of the ninth, two runners on, up by one. There were two outs and the best hitter on the opposing team came up to the plate. He hit a shot, a guarenteed gapper, but out of nowhere my star centerfielder lunged to his side and grabbed the game ending out...what a moment!

                        **

and yes I understand that people feel that diving and jumpin is somethin that should be left to the user. I don't think anyone is right or wrong in this argument. I'm just tryin to look at it in a different light.

Auto-diving and jumpin is probably where the mistake lies. It should be nothin. It should be mentioned as additional animations to get to the ball. When my shortstop fields a grounder I like to see a number of different "set and throw" animations from the game.

EA is lookin for the same thing here. They want to give the user a set number of animations to get to the ball. As I'm attemptin to field a grounder down the line, my fielder will dive on the dirt to get to the ball, get up and I press the throw button to first. The divin is an extra animation to HELP me get to the ball.

I don't think EA is tryin to take away our manual fielding control. We still have that. They just wanna redo the entire baseball video game standards by making dives and jumps into animations that give the user a much more realistic game visually, and perhaps in time a much better game realistically.

I'm just imaginin a few years ahead with what makin dives/jump into animations can do for the user in baseball gaming.

anyone who has actually played baseball will note that fielding is a huge(if not most important part of the game). Running to the ball is the absolute least a fielder ever does, and does not even come close to what the athlete has to do to actually field the ball. taking this away from the user is like taking half of baseball away. And to the posts who dont like it when you press the wrong button, you should accept that as an error on your part not a flaw of the game

seriously how many diving and jumping plays do u do a game, i really dont think its a big deal, i never really could rob home runs or make good diving catches on my own. the auto diving thing is not really a bad thing at all, yes it takes away from fielding but atleast u dont have to deal with missed dives and the ball rolling all the way to the wall and things like that, its just gonna be something u gotta get used too, not a big deal and shouldnt be a reason anyone passes up any game. think about it
