seriously how many diving and jumping plays do u do a game, i really dont think its a big deal, i never really could rob home runs or make good diving catches on my own. the auto diving thing is not really a bad thing at all, yes it takes away from fielding but atleast u dont have to deal with missed dives and the ball rolling all the way to the wall and things like that, its just gonna be something u gotta get used too, not a big deal and shouldnt be a reason anyone passes up any game. think about it

i know what your saying,. i guess my point is that its not a flaw in the game if you dive at the wrong time, it just means you need to get better. to me it seems like they took absolutely alll the challenge out of feilding. Either its a garaunteed hit or its a garaunteed out. which is not a true simulation
you cant screw up just running in a straight line! no fun
if you gotta go...go with a smile

No sweat to me...I play with auto-fielding on anyway.

I like to pitch and make the throwing decisions. I enjoy the game more this way.

              that would be me

I play auto-fielding but manual throwing. I do not find it boring. I find it frustrating to miss easy outs with my gold glover because I screwed up.

              To each his own...

anyone who has actually played baseball will note that fielding is a huge(if not most important part of the game). Running to the ball is the absolute least a fielder ever does, and does not even come close to what the athlete has to do to actually field the ball.

                  <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Not to hijack the thread (like the whole bat control thing) but I just can't let this one pass. In my opinion, the biggest part of fielding (in real-life) is getting a jump on the ball and taking the right angle. Whether you are playing center field or shortstop.

And who here hasn't taken the wrong line on a ball in videogame baseball?

I think "running to the ball" is every bit as important as the actual play.

I would rather be able to control the dives/jumps myself, but to me this is a pretty minor issue. How many diving catches do you see in a game? Having the computer take control for such a relatively rare play is just not that big a deal to me. Might even be exciting.

I will still feel like I am playing defense and am looking forward to no longer diving myself out of position and chasing the ball to the wall

Re: want to see a reason why auto dive in MVP is good?

Auto diving should make fielding, in general, look better. Home Run King did this sort of thing on every catch (it didn't dive though) and when it wasn't buggy it looked great.

Everybody has different tastes though. You have your group of people who like players to look and control realistically, then you have your people who like to be able to run your player around like a spaz (WSB2K2) without any regard to how realistic it plays or looks. Note: I haven't played WSB on the XBox.

When you're fielding in video baseball it's not possible to judge the ball the same way you might in real life. So to fix this most games have to be more lenient about which balls get caught, and that can look ugly. Example: catching a ball with your torso even though your arms are stretched out in front of you.

Now, MVP still might have these graphical glitches, but in theory it shouldn't, eh? That would be nice.

Yankee Pride...you state a good argument...the only problem is:

We can have different animations WITHOUT the computer taking over for our defensive responsibilities.

For instance...you can press the dive button and the programmers could have worked in four or five different diving animations. Same thing for jumping for a ball at the fence. Someone just needs to tell the lazy animators that "jump" and "dive" don't have to look the same every time.

Hey, if i choose to dive, then give me a diving animation. Heck, give me four or five of em, but don't tell me the computer is going to decide when I make a great catch. That's not an animation issue, that's a user control issue.

P.s. not you yankee pride, but some people are trying too hard to make this game be good before it even comes out.

good point, I didn't look at it that way. I'm actually surprised I overlooked the obvious.

I guess, before I thought it out, I was so use to havin only one or two dive animations (forward dive, slide) that I overlooked the idea of just addin more.

However, while you are right that divin/jumpin can have more animations even on manual control, there are a few things we as users wouldn't be able to do. For example, JD Drew jumpin to grab a ball that bounced off the wall. You never saw that in a video game until that video. We could never do that manually b/c it would involve just too much multitasking (somethin men are not every good at, lol). When we see the ball next to the fielder, we immediately think catch and throw. Not leap, catch, throw. (I'm talkin about after a ball has landed on the ground).

There are many things that autodiving/jumpin can do for baseball games. I like the prospect of those possibilities.

But perhaps it will be better if we can have an option for manual/auto dive/jump.
