    Jim Edmonds to Padres

    For a Single-A thirdbaseman.

    Rebuilding mode has officially begun.

Moving quickly to replace center fielder Mike Cameron, the Padres have agreed to a trade that will bring them center fielder Jim Edmonds, a 37-year-old who has won eight Gold Gloves.

The Cardinals will get Single-A third baseman David Freese, a minor leaguer.

The Padres also will get at least $1 million from St. Louis to help offset the $8 million salary that Edmonds is due. Because the financial transfer is at least $1 million, the commissioner's office must approve the transaction, which is expected to be made official today.

It's working now. I'm surprised the Cards weren't able to pull in anything better than a Single A 3B. I don't think Edmonds will fare that well though in San Diego. Edmonds' offense has already been declining the past couple of years and now what was left of his power will be zapped by Petco.

I agree his power will be hurt playing in Petco, add in his inability to stay healthy last season and I don't think we could've got anything more than what we did.

The thing I'm most anxious to see though is his defense in the huge Petco outfield, his range started decreasing quite a bit last year (partially due to injuries), I'll be interested in seeing how his defense is out there.

Solid numbers, looks like he has a live bat but hes already 24 and it was his first year in the minors so he'll have to progress pretty quickly.

I'm wondering if the Cardinals are looking to acquire someone for CF now or I wonder if we'll turn the reigns over to Colby Rasmus early and see how he does?

Looks like the links dead again, site must be having issues.

Bernie Miklasz from the STL Post Dispatch confirmed its a done deal on his message board.

He was in Single-A only because Headley was in Double-A blocking him.

I don't like this move. Just another declining left-handed OF'er... great, when do we get Geoff Jenkins to complete the sweep of left-handed declining OF'ers?

The Padres sure like old OFers don't they? Edmonds is declining rather rapidly IMO and playing in such a huge park may not be so great for him.

                      Oh well....
