This smells like a "win now with all kinds of veterans" Cubs move. I bet it'll backfire on 'em.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The only thing about that is DeRosa's swing is so touchy. And him playing the utility role we not get him into the groove he needs to get his swing right.Comment

Re: Cubs poised to get Brian Roberts
I think both teams will come out pretty even on this trade.
Roberts is a very underrated player at second base. While the Cubs are just giving up Marshall and Gallagher ( both 4th or 5th starters at best) and Cedeno who is nothing more than a very good defensive utility player.
The Cubs aren't getting raped in this deal by any means, its just hard giving up any pitching when the Cubs are so thin in that area. Re: Cubs poised to get Brian Roberts
We lose pitching depth, but gain a real lead off man which is hard to come by. I'll do that in a second. Cedeno is a AAAA player. Hits .350 in AAA and hits .220 once he gets to the show. He has also showed he is dumb. I like Gallagher's upside. Marshall is good, but not great.
I love DeRosa and feel he is underrated. Hits well at home and on the road and also balances their lineup out with his .370 OBP. They cannot lose that from their lineup. It would be ideal if the Riot would move to the utility role, but DeRosa can't play SS every day. Either way they will have to do something out of the ordinary.Comment

Re: Cubs poised to get Brian Roberts
I hate to loose Marshall but te get Roberts and get rid of Cedeno lets do it. And DeRosa can play so many positions that he will get his swings. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Right and this will be a hell of a lineup.
1 LF Soriano
2 2b Roberts
3 1b Lee
4 3b Ramirez
5 RF Fukudome
6 SS Theriot
7 CF Pie
8 C Soto
Pitching Sp Zambrano, Sp Hill, Sp Lilly, Sp Marquis, 5th TBD
7th 8th 9th inning Marmol, Howry, Wood“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

We don't have a high level major league prospect in our system other than Vitters and he is a long way from being major league ready."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Anyways, if I am the Cubs I toss in Pie and ask for Bedard as well.
Sean Marshall
Sean Gallagher
Ronny Cedeno
Felix Pie

Brian Roberts
Erik Bedard
Thats a trade I make all day if I'm both teams.Comment

Re: Cubs poised to get Brian Roberts
I agree the Phillies lineup is probably gonna put up some softball scores, but their pitching is suspect. Are they gonna keep Myers in the closer role, or is he gonna start.

Uhh...Myers is the #2 starter now... We traded for Brad Lidge a month or so ago, and he is our new closer. So are starting pitching got a little better.

Re: Cubs poised to get Brian Roberts
Not sure if this is going to happen now. Word is that they want Hill and Pie or Tyler Colvin. I would tell them to get bent if true. Roberts isn't a top tier player, so they shouldn't expect the Cubs top talent.
I would move Pie if they could get a quality pitcher, but that isn't out there. Colvin is one of the few decent kids they have in the farm system, and they need Hill as their pitching is thin.
No need to get jobbed for a roid player, who they want to move anyway. It can be done for less if Baltimore really wants to do it. That being said, I won't hold my breath anymore on this deal.Comment
