Eckstein hit .310 as a leadoff hitter with a .745 OPS last season. The Blue Jays leadoff hitters combined to hit only .247 with a .728 OPS. The guy may not be a great player but he is a serviceable leadoff hitter.

Eckstein hit leadoff for a championship team so not like a team can't win with him batting leadoff.
That said I tend to agree with you, I wasn't a huge fan of him leading off in STL but he was by far the best option we had so we had to use him, looks like Toronto is in the same situation there.Favorite Teams:

He didn't say they won because he batted leadoff, he said that they won with him batting leadoff. Don't know what's so bad about that.
And we could hit Rios first, but having a guy who likely will hit 30 HR this year batting leadoff with McDonald playing short just doesn't seem to make much sense, over gaining 75 OBP points at SS with Eckstein.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment
