That last 5 for 1 deal is absolutely atrocious, I'd be pissed if they took that. Jones, Tillman, Sherrill, and scrubs. Fantastic.

Anyway, apparently Angelos' reason for not being available is "legit", says people that have sources either with agents or within the organization on Orioles Hangout. All of them have been saying Tuesday from the get go, so I'm guessing Angelos being absent was planned.

If it's that trash of a 5 for 1 deal though, I hope he nixes it. Mickolio? Are you ****ing serious?

I wouldn't call Butler a scrub. His health is a small concern, but he grades out as a legit mid rotation lefty in 2-3 years. He's not far off from Tillman who is projected as a solid #2 starter. Mickolio is ready for the bigs now.

And the latest I've heard is if the deal goes through its a 4 for 1, not 5 for 1. Either Butler or Mickolio, but not both. I'd guess Butler goes...why in the world would Baltimore trade for 2 arms in the bullpen?

And I've made it known earlier in this thread, but I'd rather keep the 4 or 5 than get 2 years of Bedard. Do your magic Angelos!

I'm really torn between how to feel about this trade. Having Bedard for two years paired up with Felix is an amazing thought. If we can get an extension for Bedard RIGHT NOW then I'd say this is a great deal. However, if we're only looking at two years of Bedard, I think I'd rather keep Adam Jones and whoever else we would give up. Like I said earlier, I am so afraid that Jones is going to turn into Griffey.

oh come on now. you don't know Bowden like us Reds fans do. It's only a matter of time before the Nationals are full of guys who hit a bunch of homers and play no defense. Oh yeah, almost forgot about all the pitchers who can't pitch, that's always fun to watch.

Trust me, stay away from the Nats. Until Bowden's gone, they're going to suck.

Exactly. If it were more than two years of Bedard I could accept the deal. If they don't get the extension they lose Bedard in two years and have no one in the system to replace him because Tillman and Butler are gone. The M's have 32 million/year coming off the books after this season. So they have the money to sign him.

If the deal doesn't go through we've got Felix, Morrow, Silva, and possibly Aumont/Tillman/Butler as the rotation in 2010+.

Other than botching the Soriano situation, he's done a great job. Their minor league system has gone from one of the worst in MLB to one of the best in a matter of 2 years.

well I wouldn't exactly call the Nats a great job. Sure there's farm talent but does that really matter if they never turn into good MLB players? Bowden has a history of having good prospects that either never pan out or turn into players like Austin Kearns.

I'd be more in favor of this trade if Bedard signed an extension first. I don't really want to trade away the M's future for a guy who'll be gone after two years. It would also leave a huge hole in RF to go along with the lead-footed Raul Ibanez in LF. Ichiro may have to cover a hell of a lot of ground in the outfield this season.

I have very mixed feelings, but without the extension I think I'd rather see Angelos scuttle the deal.

Looks like its back on. From numerous sources (Buster Onley, KJR AM, etc.) the hang-up was a rule regarding physicals for Adam Jones and George Sherrill. It will probably be announced today or tomorrow.

This opens the door for Roberts to be sent to Chicago next.

The Mariners would send Jones, Tillman, Butler, Mikolio, Carlos Truinfel , and Jose Lopez for Erik Bedard and Brian Roberts.
