        Anyway....

Anyone who thinks Feliz is a offensive upgrade over what they were going to trot out there is probably mistaken. He is not going to do more at the plate than Dobbs / Helms would have.

Defensively though, you are taking statistically one of the best fielding 3B's to replace two guys who are below average fielding the position on their best days. The expected run savings defensively is where the upgrade is.

I don't see how this is a bad move.

At one point it mentions how Feliz, defensively, was rated equally to David Bell, the former Phillies 3B who would likely cost a lot less money.

For those that don't want to read the whole article, it is basically saying that Feliz is overrated as a hitter and his defense while good, is not gold-glove caliber. I always thought Feliz was overrated as a hitter and this article helps confirm it for me.

Now, if we want to get down to basic hitting stats, here it is:

            Feliz 07: .253, 22 HR, 71 RBI
            Phillies 3B 07: .255, 11 HR, 76 RBI

I don't believe that Feliz is THAT much of an upgrade defensively to make this a good signing.

Oh...oh...I'm sorry. Yes, you right. Forget Pedro Feliz. Gillick should've gone out and gotten Michael Jack Schmidt...given him some a magic de-aging potion and put him out there at 3rd base.

                1. David Bell is out of the league. I have no idea why you even brought him up. Bell is at home smearing HGH on his *** just for kicks now.

                2. Abe Nunez sucks. Wes Helms sucks. Greg Dobbs is a nice utility player.

                2. No one here in Philly expects Pedro Freakin' Feliz to be Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt and Miguel Cabrera rolled into one.

                3. All we want from the guy is for him to come in, start almost every game and play good defense and give some pop at maybe the 7th spot in the lineup, unlike in SF where he batted higher up.

So I will ask...what the hell are you arguing about? Or do you just want to bicker in order to bicker?

Re: Pedro Feliz signs with the Phillies

Here are the defensive stats for Helms and Dobbs at 3rd last year....

NAME G GS IP TC PO A E DP FP% RF ZR
                  Helms 68 53 442.2 133 27 97 9 3 .932 2.53 .761
                  Dobbs 68 57 418.0 128 44 77 7 7 .945 2.61 .718

                  And here is Feliz
NAME G GS IP TC PO A E DP FP% RF ZR
                  Feliz 143 137 1220.0 406 93 302 11 28 .973 2.91 .852

Quite an upgrade. In MLB he was 2nd in fielding %, first in zone rating, 5th in range factor.

If you are going to question his bat, that is certainly legit. Defensively though he is certainly very good. For $4.25 million (which is nearly $1million less than he was paid last year) he is worth the investment for this team that gets corner infield production from their second baseman....as long as he keeps catching the ball and producing runs at the pace he has historically. Since he is only 31, I'm not sure there is any empirical evidence to support why his offense would decline over the next 2 years.

Last two posts are spot on. Plus, there's the other intangible..... how will someone do in new pastures. Sorry, there's no stat for that. If I were a major leaguer, and I knew I was coming to a pennant contender, maybe various shortcomings in my game would/could take an upswing.

Not arguing about anything. This is a discussion board and I am discussing.

Now, I came at you with facts and a reasonably stated case. You come back with a rant similar to that of a 13-year-old. Instead of coming out with guns blazing, maybe you could make a rational counter-argument like jdros13 did, you know, by providing stats and a well-thought, well-written post.

I gave it to you like you wanted it. When talking to someone that does nothing but wants to hear himself argue just for the sake of it, sometimes you have to pop that person upside the head.

Technically, jdros and I gave you the same conclusion. What do you want from me?

If it was for you to continue taking shots at me like you have twice so far in this thread, then do it in the form of a PM. Otherwise, save it and let this thread get back on topic. I'm tired of some of you, I swear.
