What Is The Longest Home Run You Ever Saw...

    a) in person?

    or

    b) on television?

I saw Manny Ramirez hit the 3rd longest home run in Astrodome history in person. I think it was around 465 feet.

I've seen nothing record breaking in person, but p-r-o-b-a-b-l-y the two I saw on TV that come to mind are:

back in '71 I was home on a summer day and watched on TV, Dave Kingman hit a bomb that left Shea Stadium far over the left-center wall and ultimately hit a vehicle in the parking lot.

Here's what Wikipedia had on it: "...In 1971, Dave Kingman---then with the San Francisco Giants but soon enough to be a two-tour Met---hit a home run that smashed off the windshield of the Giants' team bus, parked outside the stadium behind the left field bullpen..."

        Here's the play-by-play of that half-inning:

Top of the 5th, Giants Batting, Behind 0-4, Jerry Koosman facing 5-6-7
        O --- D Dietz Groundout: 2B-1B
        R --- D Kingman Home Run (LF)
        O --- A Gallagher Groundout: 3B-1B
        O --- C Speier Flyball: RF

Then maybe about 4 or 5 years ago at the Skydome, I saw Manny absolutely CRUSH a pitch that landed wayyyyyyyy out and wayyyyyy up in the last section adjacent to the left field foul pole. That shot HAD to be close to 500' My goodness....

          @ Kashanova

          I forgot...

I saw when Jay Buhner hit his bomb out in 'A-Rod' Territory (left center; near the gate) at The Stadium. And I saw when Juan Encarnacion hit a bomb to center at The Stadium that cleared the black by plenty...

I saw Kevin Mitchell hit a ball about as far as I have ever seen a ball hit before, off a Rob Dibble fastball at Candlestick park. I don't know the exact distance, but I saw a lot of games in that park, and nothing came close.

The other that comes to mind is Bonds bouncing one off the scoreboard in RF at Qualcomm stadium. Guy was always a Padre killer, but up to that point I had never even seen a ball get close to that scoreboard before. I think it was off of Andy Ashby, but I don't remember.

Both of these were in person.

Big Mac in Oakland he hit it about 500 feet, he also crushed one at SBC Park when I was there. I think it went about 500 feet too.

Was that game where him and Clark went back to back. I was at that game. And you are right I forget about him. He crushed one in your Park too. Clark was on second base, I remember watching that game. That was a shot. Yeah Bonds was a shot. I was watching that saying WTF!

                  LOL!

If I remember and I have the chance, I'll ask Dibs on his radio show if he remembers, and I'll post what he said....

TV: Ryan Howard demolishing a ball into the upper deck in right field against the Yankees

In Person: Rafael Palmeiro against the Red Sox at Camden Yards in '05, almost went out to Eutaw Street (I think it was hit #2,998 as well).

                      a) Either one from Bonds or this one I saw from David Justice against the Oakland Athletics. I couldn't tell you the tale of the tape, because I honestly don't know. I just remember it was a bomb-and-a-half.

                      b) Probably one from McGwire (if we're referring to home runs we saw live and not just as a highlight). He hit one a good long way... that's all I can remember about it. I don't trust estimates unless they're from Hit Tracker Online.

That would be awesome. I think it was Mitchell's MVP year, but it may have been the year after that. Seriously it had a vapor trail.

                            In person, none memorable.

On TV. Manny Ramirez hitting one OVER the lightstack on the Monster. I think they estimated it at 501, 1 foot shy of Ted Williams' seat. IMO, he obliterated Williams' distance, they just didn't want him to have Teddy Ballgame's record homerun distance in the park.

One more that comes to mind is Fred McGriff when he was with the Pads hit one about 1000 rows up off of Scott Garrelts at Candlestick.

Vlad had a pretty good bomb off of "King" Felix on a fastball up around his eyes this past year.
