Because not all companies have the market share (read: leverage) that EA has.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say you owned a gaming site the size of IGN, and EA told you they wanted you to hold your review back until release.
    You say "no".
EA replies by saying, "OK. I guess we won't be sending you any more betas - of anything - sports, Sims, console titles, PC titles, anything. But nothing has to change if you just push your review back a few days..."

What would you do? You'd push it back, too!

However, while EA uses the leverage it can (as would Sega or anyone other companies if they had the power to and thought it would suit their purposes), I'm still going to try MVP - because I decide whether I like a game or not. Reviews help, these Forums help - but nobody can truly tell you what you think - you have to try it yourself and find out.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Nice to see someone not take EA's stance the wrong way, like their just EVIL, so EVIL for what they do, because everyone does it.

Personally, It doesnt matter if its EA, Sega, MS, Nin, or anyone else, if they dont want their product reviewed b4 release, they can do that. Reviews tend to sway public opinion, just look at this forum, and how everyone picks apart the Hands-On and Preview info. If they hold the Review to the 11th, the game still comes out the 12th. If you read the review and dont like it, then you can STILL NOT BUY IT!

Last time I checked, no review was out of the mouth of God, no review is gospel and no review can every express the opinion of you, me or anyone else who DIDNT write said review. Reviews are meant to guide and to give you anothers take on a product, but in the last few years, reviews have become the end all be all of a product, and companies know this. Sometimes reviews dont matter (DMC 2), and sometimes their wrong (State of Emer), and sometimes they actually help (I personally wouldnt have bought Suikoden 3 if i didnt read the review first).

Personally, Review or no Review, I am going to check out MVP. Also Im gettin WSB and already own HH, and no review is ever going to sway me from getting a game unless its labeled as absolute trash, and its a brand new title from a no name developer with no rep. Other than that, reviews just give me alittle bit of info on a game b4 its released. And maybe the reviewer is like me, and maybe he's not, you never know.

PS - Since when did EA become the Devil?? OS seems to have alot of people who feel EA is "Out to Get Them", and I wanna know when this happened, because I hate to break it to some of you, but every, EVERY company is after your pockets, some more than others, with MS being on the top of that chain. BG didnt get to be worth 50bil by not getting the public to buy their product.

Reviews do make or break sales. Even tho you may take a review with a grain of salt, it can still contribute to your decision. If I read a review today from someone who said WSB was complete garbage, I might think twice on wasting my money o it. But, since I already have my tax return, I dont care what nobody says about the game, I'm getting it.

looking thru reviews and researching a game makes a smart shopper. Unlike my very gullable past.

And yes, EA is Satan. At lease other companies put out a good product unlike EA who brightly shines eye-candy and New features to get ppl to buy thier games.
But as we all should know, all companies will soon follow trend once they make a name for themslves. EA has the name, so ppl rush out to buy an EA game jut b/c the name.

            EA is Satan - rotflmao

I know this is a ProSega/MS board, but be real honest with yourself, when a Sega title gets mentioned, introduced or released, there is a line around the Empire State Building of OS posters that swear its the best thing since Cotton Candy(yummy). If someone mentions EA's product, you can smell the charcoal a mile away, cause they will get flamed. But truth be told, because 200 posters think any EA product is garbage, is it true,..........no, not really. And it works vice versa.

Personally, I buy whatever I like, whether its (And I own all off these): Madden, NCAA, NFL 2k3(GC - what a mistake that was, but it was 20bucks), NBA 2k3, NCAA 2k3, TW2003, WSB, HH, and soon to be MVP and WSB2k3. Not because of reviews, but because of what I like. Whether its EA, Sega, MS, 3DO, or whoever.

Its not going to change ne1's mind, but EA (IMHO) is not Satan, the Devil, or Hades, or whatever you want to call them. They're "trying" to give you the best game out there, and like every co., its not always going to happen.

BTW, Speakin of Eyecandy - I guess Fever isnt Eye Candy, or ID? Just bringing up a point that most Co's know that Graphics sell, and its a big part of the mind set of most gamers.

The latest GMR has a review for MVP, they gave it a 7/10, but said it was better than All-Star.

                    Re: Interesting tidbit reguarding MVP

Only reason I call EA satan is b/c of their mediocore games they've been putting out for the last few years.

I brought NBA Live, you kno why, b/c of its name. Same with Madden. It seems that every other company puts more efford into their games than EA. They know you will buy it, so they put together a piece of crap and put their name on it. While they site in fancy offices smoking cigars our something.

what it comes down to is, at lease other Companys are trying to make a good product and EA is just making a game to fatten their pockets. At lease that what it seems to me. Thats why so many ppl hate EA and thats the reason I call them the devil. If EA made good games like they use to, then no one would get flamed b/c they like EA.

You really cant compare EA to any other company b/c they've been out longer than everyone with the exception to Sega.

                        Re: Interesting tidbit reguarding MVP

Ok, so people run out in droves to buy EA games. So what? Last time I checked, they didn't send their employees out to people's homes and have them put a gun to their heads, demanding that they purchase their product.

EA has the highest brand awareness of any game publisher because of their sales history, so I say kudos to them.

Putting the blame on them is asinine. I admit some of the games they put out are crap, but they don't force people to buy it.

If someone is stupid enough to blindly buy a game just because of the name on the box ("oooo, I know who EA Sports is, I'll get that one"), is it really EA's fault? No, it is the consumer's fault for being a mindless fool who can't think for themself. EA knows it owns the market when it comes to the casual buyer, which is the majority of people out there. Why do you think Madden outsold NFL2K3 by such a large margin, even though most people consider 2K3 the better game?

The only way to combat a company that puts out crap games is to not buy those games, plain and simple. As long as people continue to be led like sheep to the slaughterhouse, EA has nothing to worry about.

Sadly, for us hardcore gamers, this also means more laziness and complacence from companies like EA that realize their brand name alone sells copies. I can't fault a company for trying to make a buck, though. Remember, EA is in business to make money, not to win a "most caring game company" award.

They are not putting a gun to are head but their advertising and marketing campaign is as close as putting a gun to your head as it can get.

The only way to combat a company that puts out crap games is to not buy those games, plain and simple. As long as people continue to be led like sheep to the slaughterhouse, EA has nothing to worry about.

And thats why I dont buy their games, they are pure crap. And why are we being led to a slaughter house? You said it already.

Ok, Live this year is a bad example because its not that bad. Its not 2k3, but its not garbage. Live from 99 thru 02 was garbage. But its not like Sega didnt have some stinkers, WSB 2k1, 2k2, NHL 2k, NCAA 2k2, just to name a few.

Truth is, I like Madden (Please dont hurt me), and while I had DC, 2k was my game of choice and I honestly believed that it was better than Madden. I later realized the folly of MY ways, and went back. And dont get it twisted, I aint no fool, I never even came close to buying TP on PS2, because it was trash - to me, and almost everyone else.

EA gets ragged on because its most visable. If your in the lead, everyone is quick to take shots at you, just like they do with Sony(Ps2) and MS(Windows). Because we love to bring down those on top (Michael Jackson is a prime example of this - WTF is up with that Witch Doctor sh*t,...........I thought things couldnt get any weirder,..........................I was wrong).

Anyway, 7 yrs ago, everybody, and I do mean everybody thought EA was the shizznick, before they went megaton and now people have alot of Haterade in their system towards them. Personally, I could care less if they made the worst Baseball Game or the Best, because Im going to buy what I like, like most of us out there. And thats the "Only way to Fly"

                                BTW,

How come no one has mentioned the Head of the Secret Society of Game Developers, aka the StoneCutters, none other than Nintendo. They are so hush hush that not even their own employees know what game their programming for. If they release some info early, you might as well consider it the last day of you life, because the world is offically going to end.
