"I did my steroids this morning.".........okay Peter Gammons good to know.
I am watching the Braves-Dodgers game on ESPN and at around 2:25pm it came back with Peter Gammons saying "I did my steroids this morning." This was followed by the other announcer doing the intro.

I had to rewind it several times to verify I wasn't having an auditory hallucination, but that is definitely what he said. I'd love to know what lead up to it.
You know what I miss, the old ESPN Radio from their website where they stayed with the hosts through the ads. Tony Kornheiser was hilarious.Comment

I've never heard of anyone taking steroids for a brain aneurysm.
He was probably joking and didn't realize how stupid he would sound."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Because it's a tired subject that he thought would be funny to bring up again. He's just trying to bring attention to himself and thought if he said something people would laugh because he's a) Peter Gammons or B) an old man that's going senile before our eyes.
It's stupid. We don't need anymore steroid jokes. Just baseball."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

dola,
If someone wants to joke about the negativity of the sport they shouldn't be associated with it.
You don't crap where you sleep.
Leave the jokes to the comedians that get paid to be funny. Peter Gammons gets paid to deliver baseball news.
Anything else is stupid especially when he's trying to be funny. Something he's never been on air, despite thinking that at times he is. He's the only one laughing most of the time.
Oh well, he's basically turned into a huge joke, anyway. He's one of the many reasons I don't watch or read ESPN for their sports news or coverage."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: "I did my steroids this morning.".........okay Peter Gammons good to know.
He used to be is right. I loved Peter Gammons when I was in college.
But a part of me feels that maybe I did because I bought that ESPN crap. I don't want to believe that ESPN was always the garbage that it is today.
It's sad. Even ESPNews is turning the corner into crap-ville. You just can't get sports news anymore. Everyone has an opinion when they cover facts. It doesn't make sense.
Opinions are for blogs or opinion articles. I shouldn't read opinions when someone is talking about what happened the night before.
And this trend is reaching beyond sports news. I see it in political or local news. When anchors are offering their own opinions on the political campaign (and I'm not talking about MSNBC anchors. I'm talking regular old 6 o'clock news on ABC anchors) there is a problem. I don't want to hear your opinion. I just want the news."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
