    - Listed at #6 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players, the highest-ranked active player, in 2005.
    - Named a finalist to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999, but not elected to the team in the fan balloting.
    - Rating of 352 on Baseball-Reference.com's Hall of Fame monitor (100 is a good HOF candidate);[85] 9th among all hitters, highest among hitters not in HOF yet.
    - Only the second player to twice have a single-season slugging percentage over .800, with his record .863 in 2001 and .812 in 2004. Babe Ruth was the other, with .847 in 1920 and .846 in 1921.
    - Became the first player in history with more times on base (376) than official times at bats (373) in 2004. This was due to the record number of walks, which count as a time on base but not a time at-bat. He had 135 hits, 232 walks, and 9 hit-by-pitches for the 376 number.

you can throw all the Bonds stats you want but the bottom line is no fan base will accept the signing of him. At this point, I don't think any GM is sitting there thinking "gosh we're so close to being an elite club, all we need to do is sign a veteran masher. You know what? We should sign Bonds." The amount of money he would demand would far outweigh his output on the field.

no fan base? please... and its not his output on the field (which as you can see he has plenty of gold gloves) but his bat at the plate and the numbers speak for themselves on that

The only place Bonds should be playing is in a state penitentiary. Why he hasn't been convicted yet for what he did is beyond me.

He really isn't... but the **** that follows him is cancerous. If there wasn't any media, everything would be just fine.

Bonds is a good mentor for the younger ones during BP. Sometimes he is for the vets as well (in 2005 he did a lot of work with Mark Sweeney and Steve Finley). He still leads the world in OBP. He is a magnet for a plethora of home team fans. Though his demands in the locker room are high, I think that he just needs to be on a winning, yet under-the-radar team to get the least possible attention. That said, Texas, Oakland, or Minnesota would be his best bets.

I just really hope he plays, though. I want to see him reach 3,000 hits, and I really want him to get that World Series ring.

So, Gil Meche getting $55 million for five years isn't an overrated salary? Did we forget Zito as well? I don't know if I've been out of it... but has inflation risen so much that players like Richie Sexson deserve $15.5 million a year?

Bonds may come expensive, but he was $18 million in his best season when Sosa was $17 million in his worst season. I don't think that $12 million for a year (assuming Bonds is willing to compromise) would be too much hurt for a team for a player of this stature. I think we're all forgetting that, steroids or not, he is still a player that I consider more threatening with a bat than Albert Pujols or Derrek Lee... though that may be my man-crush kicking in.

I'm no fan of Barry Bonds, but other guys are under suspicion of using steroids and are still on MLB teams. Bonds is a special talent even at this advanced age. If a team gets desperate, I think he could be signed. I don't think there were any spots for him this offseason. He has to be a DH and teams had their DH spot filled in. When those DH's don't produce this season, we could see Bonds go somewhere.

When I said on the field I meant at the plate, I thought that was just assumed and would not have to spell it out for you.

Well I would argue that in no way did Zito or Sexson deserve such large contracts though I didn't mind the Gil Meche one. However, that's for a separate thread, I don't want to get off topic here.

Bonds would probably demand at least $15 mil, no way I can see him compromising to $12 mil. With that hypothetical salary in place, I just can't justify giving him that contact when he's probably only good for 25 HR and 70 RBI. His OBP is wonderful, yes, but he's not feared like he was as recently as three years ago and pitchers would go after him. Add in all the attention from fans and media as well as the giant recliner and four locker spots and I just don't think he's worth it at all.

He has to be asking for too much money for the complications he brings with him. I'm sure someone would bring him in at the right price OR he'll reduce his demands as the season wears on and somebody needs him because of injury and he's getting desperate.

At this point Bonds production isn't worth the circus that follows him around. Also, he's pretty much limited to just AL teams since he can't consistently play the field anymore.

I can't believe someone hasn't signed him, but since we already have Big Frank we have no real need for him.

IMO Seattle is a good place for him.
