Bonds is anathema to any team right now. The only fanbase that embraced him was San Fran. The man is the most hated man in baseball. I know i'd be upset if he were to wear a Jays uniform.

BTW Blzer if bonds isn't a cancer then how do you explain his blowup with Jeff Kent?

I wouldn't want Bonds just because he's old and falling apart...you know he's gonna tweak his knee or something in April and be out half the season...

Why deal with the media circus when you know the guy's old and bound to get hurt?

I don't want to sound like I'm defending Bonds but you can't just use one incident and say that makes him a cancer. Michael Jordan punched Steve Kerr in practice one day and Phil Jackson had to kick him out of practice. Was Jordan a team cancer?

Jeff Cant is a bum, he wasnt too hot on the mets and then you put him in a lineup behind someone that gets on base all the time and people say hes good. I could get 100 RBIs hitting behind Bonds. Jeff was a crybaby bum

and how can u say his only fanbase is in San Fran, hes been one of my favorite players ever since he came into the league and always will be. you guys all eat up the BS espn feeds you about players, let me tell you that you shouldn't be judging personalities from what espn shows you. what Bonds does at the plate speaks for itself and any "fan" that wouldn't watch their team anymore because they sign a legend like Bonds isn't a real fan in my book

and i think the media circus that everyone thinks is so bad will be more like a media carnival now that its not a "home run chase" anymore, its "762 and counting"

You follow Randy Moss around like a groupie, you attach yourself to whatever team he plays for, and you're telling other people what "real fans" are?

Lol, I guess the majority of baseball fans aren't real "fans" then. I wouldn't want Bonds on Atlanta because it would be disrespectful of Hank Aaron imo to have Bonds wear the same uniform as him. On top of that I wouldn't want the media circus that will follow Bonds 162 games a year.

Jeff Kent is no angel either. This is the same guy who got pissed off on the Dodgers last season calling them out on why there were too many young player. Of course he tried some damage control, but it's always great for rookies to know that there are established veterans already pissed at them.

Re: Great season coming except for one thing....

I know the Jeff Kent example wasn't the best but it was the most recent one I remember. I've heard many interviews (NOT ESPN) that portrays Bonds as an enigma at best. He gets along with teamates when he feels like it. The guy has ALWAYS had a surly attitude with the press going all the way back to his Pirates days. In fact the impression I get of Bonds is that he's a selfish guy who will only play nice nice when he gets his own way. He also has extreme behavior as some days he'd be a very charming and cool guy and other days he'd be a surly bastard which leads me to think that he goes through roid rage.

As for the "real fan" comment well let me tell you something, I've been a life long Jays fan and have followed them through everything they've gone through. There have been a couple points where I almost gave up my fandom for the team such as when Buck Martinez was fired out of the blue by JP Ricciardi. (looking back, I wasn't against the firing it was how it was done)

There are certain things that go beyond the pale for me and one of those things is signing Barry Bonds. It doesn't mean i'd never cheer for the team again but I wouldn't cheer for them as long as Bonds was there.

That's fine you're a fan, but you are not representative of the entire Twins fan base. The overwhelming majority would most likely hate the signing of Bonds for one reason or another.

I've disliked Bonds well before ESPN started in with everything. Performance-enhancing issues aside, I don't think anybody can dispute the fact that the dude's an *******.

If there wasn't any media? Are you serious? Media is as much a part of baseball as pine tar is. That's like saying if there were no curveballs than Rob Deer would be a Hall of Famer.

Since he came into the league? Really? 22 years?

I have to ask, how old are you? He's been an a-hole long before he came into the league.

The one that happened six years ago in the San Diego dugout? I hardly call that a sign of something cancerous. That, and I heard that Kent was to blame.

Milton Bradley is more of a cancer than Barry Bonds. Terrell Owens is more of a cancer than Barry Bonds. But something happened to all of them last year. All of them have been much nicer to the media (though the media hasn't been as nice to them). I'm not sure what it was... but Bradley and T.O. are doing just fine on their respective teams. I don't think Bonds being on a team will tarnish their morality so much that they will be losing games left and right.

Again, it's not Bonds that is the problem per se. It is the media. It's unfair to say Bonds can't come back because the media won't keep quiet about him when he jocks up.

He put up a 1.045 OPS last year in 132 games. He got on base at a .480 clip. I can't believe his negatives are so bad that they outweigh what he could bring to a lineup for a single season.

So if he's only useful to an AL team because he HAS to DH then where could he go?

Tampa - Maybe, but would they pay?

                              Kansas City - No money

Anaheim - ...maybe? I think their lineup would be monstrous with him but do they have a regular DH or do they kind of use it to rest Vlad a bit?
                              Seattle - Eh.
                              Oakland - Mike Piazza
                              Texas - Sammy Sosa

So the only teams that really have space are Tampa, KC, Minnesota, Anaheim, and Seattle. Count KC out because they'll never spend the money when there are three great teams ahead of them. Count Minnesota out because they never do anything like this. Let's count Tampa out because they're cheap even though this would be a great year to make a run. So Anaheim or Seattle. And Seattle has a glut of DH guys on the roster too. So Anaheim and even then they would have to work to get him in the lineup? Sounds like Barry WILL have to wait for an injury to some AL DH if he wants to play this year.
