Ok, so we only have 2 maybe 3 home grown hall of famers on the team, one of the most dominant relievers in baseball, one of the best 2nd baseman in baseball, a #1 starter, and another pitcher who's won over 200 games in his career, all homegrown.

Well ya know, when you "buy" your way into the post season, only to choke every year, than yeah, it is irrelevant. Every year the Yankess make the playoffs, every year they choke it away. That my friend is the defintion of irrelevance.

I guess the team does take on the persona of their best player, "Mr. Postseason" Alex "show me the money, don't hurt my feelings" Rodriguez.

I'll give you the 2 HOF'ers in Jeter and Rivera. Rivera is the best closer in history imo. Jeter is a good player, who in my opinion gets more credit due to the success of the team than anyone I have ever seen,.

Cano, one of best 2B in baseball? I think that is debatable. Is Wang a true #1? I don't know but he's a quality starter. Agreed on Pettite. It's nice, have they grown as much talent as other teams? I don't know. Do they buy a lot of talent? I don't think that can be disputed. Has any team done less with more? I personally don't think so.

But that's all irrelevant. Most are tired of the Yankees/Red Sox stuff getting stuffed down our throats by ESPN and the rest of the national media. No one outside the NorthEast part of the country cares anymore. And that was where my original comment was coming from.

People act like they don't care about Yankees/Red Sox but when their games are on ESPN and Fox they're the highest rated games of the season. So something about the rivalry is still drawing people in.

IDK, were they these last couple of weeks? I used to love watching that series. But it's been so overplayed and force fed recently, I didn't watch a single game of the two recent series.

Couldn't that just be a result of those two being two of the most popular teams? Meaning they have the most fans, and so of course the ratings will be higher than say a Rays/Royals game.

I watched the games, but only because they were on. If the Royals aren't playing, I'm always watching another game. I watched the White Sox/Rays game today, that's how pathetic I am.

That and New York is the largest market, couple that will all the new Boston fans crawling out of the wood work. People love to be associated with winners. Personally I could care less about their rivalries. I dislike ESPN, the American League and hate teams not located in San Diego....

I wouldn't take many other 2B over Cano and he is most likely in the top 5. Utley is heads and shoulders above everyone else, then you have Roberts, Cano, and Phillips in the next tier. Not many others that you can make an argument for. Maybe Polanco or Kendrick, but Cano has more power than both of those guys.

Also I know you were just complaining about the media attention the series gets and I agree. Main part of the reason I don't watch ESPN unless they are showing an actual game.

I'm biased I won't lie...but Ill take a Cubs/Cards series over a Yanks/RSox series anyday

heck ill take a Rays/Orioles series by this point...I cant stand the RSox...HUUUUUUGE bandwagon since they won their 1st WS...

I do enjoy watching the Yanks choke in the playoffs every year, i just keep hoping its to more teams like Detroit, Cleveland, LAA..I wouldnt say the Yanks are irrelevant, but when you feel they're gonna die off in the playoffs...it has no suspense so who cares?

Then again, I do watch my Cubs even tho I know they're gonna lose...so i digress, its all in the eye of the beholder. But if theres 2 teams I hate more than NYY...its Boston and the Cards....

Couldnt have said it better about a lot of Red Sox fans coming out of the woodwork...Im a Yankees fan so I love the rivalry, but I can see how others might get tired of it..especially seeing alot of these smaller market teams playing well (ie..Rays, Rockies, Brewers). Watching these teams and seeing new young talent emerge in these other markets is great.

Well, it's really no different than the number of Yankee fans that came out of the woodwork after 1996.

I'd say it's more controlled in Boston. Most "new" Boston fans are still from MA and were just quiet because they had nothing to talk about when it came to the Sox.

What we are discovering is that Red Sox fans are just as loud and obnoxious as Yankee fans. All this time people thought it was just NY. Now they think it's just the Northeast.

I've never met anyone from that area I didn't want to choke, so perhaps it IS the Northeast. Loud, obnoxious, know-it-alls, and I could take both accents and shove them down their throats. The people are downright rude (I know I'm being that way right now), and there's a reason they have that reputation.

As for the teams, sorry, it doesn't take skill to build a perrenial playoff team like that Yankees have when you simply buy the best players in the league and hodge-podge them together. The Yankees farm system produces SOME talented players, but compare it to others and it's shockingly mediocre at best.

I understand the Yankees and Red Sox do business within the framework of the rules by simply throwing money at the biggest cows, but that doesn't mean anyone should respect it. They are simply lucky enough to draw revenue from huge market areas and simply churn out more and more profits each to year to keep the cycle going. Crap, I need an outfielder.... who was good last year? Let's sign.... HIM.

Look as his tenure before NY (crap) and look at what he'll do in the future. Shoot, you give me his Yankee teams and I can draw names out of a hat for a lineup and randomly pick a pitcher and win 95 games.

Sorry, yes, there's quite a bit of hate in this post, but it gets pretty annoying when one team simply depends primarily on outspending to win, when most other teams actually need to worry about chemistry, player development, managerial skills, and how to get fans into the ballpark to actually make a quality product and bring in revenue.

Don't know where you get that the Yankees minor league system is mediocre. It was terrible up until a couple of years ago, but over the last few years and now every "expert" calls it at least top 10. So maybe if you compare it to the top 1-2 teams it's mediocre but comparing it to the rest of baseball it is very good. Same with the Red Sox.

I agree somewhat on Torre but I think that's more managers in general. There aren't any managers who would have sucked with the Yankees over the last10+ years but I doubt there's anyone who would have made them much better.
