Re: This could only happen in NY

It has been for quite a long time up until recently. I say mediocre simply because the jury is still out based on minor league to major league translation. In a year or two we might be able to say that it's great or top 10. I will say this, it looks promising with the likes of Joba, Tabata, and Kennedy. Oh yeah, Hughes looks promising. Yankees look like their developing pitchers well.... develop pitchers and buy the bats? Probably not the worst concept. I will admit not being up on the NYY minor leaguers that much.

Sadly I'm starting to hate Boston more.....................................

The only problem with the argument that the Yankees and Red Sox try to win by outspending everyone else is that the Los Angeles teams are as guilty of this as anyone. The only difference is that they have not won anything by doing so.

Yea, I understand your argument here penguit.

But, it's difficult to take seriously from a Lakers fan.

No disrespect to you as I'm sure your anti-Yankee, New Yorker chant was not disrespectful to me but surely you can see how it's a bit unusual for either of us to really speak about this.

Money? Overspending for talent? That's happened in both the Northeast and in California since about the beginning of sports. The LA franchises are just as guilty of this as Boston and New York.

Now, if maybe someone from Missouri chimed in then I could really understand.

Re: This could only happen in NY

Very good post. Granted, I am a Laker fan but I'm also from Minneapolis.... and that's probably why I have the view of spending like I do. The Twins spend almost nothing but bring along talent with the best of them. Yes, the last couple years they've been down, but the previous 5-6 years before that they were winning their division with one of the lower payrolls in the majors. All of this done with inhouse talent. We don't have the luxury of a huge market or an owner that likes to spend money. Pollad, our owner, is actually the richest in the MLB. He's also the cheapest! It's frustrating to say the least. There has to be a happy medium.

And the LA teams... sigh.... for baseball at least they have no idea how to spend money on the right players. At least NYY and the BoSox are spending money on players that improve their teams.

Why can't the dang MLB just get a real salary cap like other sports? I know it's an age old argument, but come on.

This is probably only news because it's Red Sox and Yankees.

I'd bet this sort of thing has happened in other parks. There's gotta be a chance someone buried some LA merchandise under San Francisco's new park.
