Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
Let Joba start every game.
Seriously, the Yankees organization is pushing this kid way too hard. He may seem mature about it right now but at some point the pressure is going to get to him. Hell, he was loved by Yanee fans even before he first threw a pitch in the big leagues. He's never going to live up to the expectations of the fans unless he's a perennial 20 game winner which I don't really see.
Let's hope he doesn't become the Yankees version of Doc Gooden.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
Just my opinion but I think he'll be similar to AJ Burnett, hopefully without the injuries.
And LOL @ ESPN for this entire ordeal. Hype the hell out of this start before hand and then put an insanely negative spin on his start (the photo of Joba on ESPN.com looking upset, saying how it was a "false start" and "short night of work", etc) even though it was fine outside of some control issues.
He gave up one hit on a seeing-eye-single that was hit off the handle by Rolen. His control will settle down and the walks will decrease as his pitch count goes up.

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
I was confused last night.
I rush home to try to watch him pitch and he wasn't even on the mound. Crazy."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

In all fairness I guess I should have said a better or more consistent version of AJ Burnett."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Not that he's going to win 20 games every year because no one really does, but what do you see holding him back from being a front of the rotation pitcher?Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
Joba should definitely be a starter, it's just going to take some time for him to get the feeling back to being a starter and get out of the relief mentality.

I also think he's too much of a thrower right now but that'll change as he gets older.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
Part of it is mental. As i've already stated some NYY fans have this inflated notion of him as some stud who'll be the #1 guy for 10+ years. The other thing is pitching. As it stands now he's only a 2 pitch guy. If he's going to be a front of the rotation pitcher he's going to have to have a consistent 3rd pitch to rely on.

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
It is kinda surprising that so many non-Yankee fans think Joba is a two-pitch pitcher."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Should Joba Chamberlain be starting?
Not sure Joba is a 4 pitch pitcher yet, as his changeup has yet to come around, but he's definitly a 3 pitch pitcher at this moment as his curve is pretty nice and his changeup is improving as well.Comment
