Rays sign Kazmir to 3year 28million extension

He's going to be great and the Rays are headed in the right direction. What goin on with the teams in Florida spending money? First Hanley with the Marlins and now Kazmir with the Rays.

He's getting ripped in today's market.

    Good for the Rays nonetheless.

That's almost 10 million a year. Sounds good to me.

To answer your question CP3 both Florida teams are banking on their new stadiums to bring in tons of fans so that they can afford to pay these salaries. In any other baseball market that would make perfect sense but it's about a 50/50 proposition in Florida.

Look at the Marlins for example, even when they're playing pretty good baseball they barely draw good crowds. At least the Tampa Bay fanbase seems to be a little bigger as i've actually seen some okayish crowds there.

Not when Mike Hampton is making $15 million.

Great deal for the Rays and what does that say about Kazmir? Awesome move and a sign he is getting the support around him.

Tampa Bay definetly going in right direction, good talent is turning into good players, good record, all they need to do is move into that new stadium Tampa could be a front runner in our division for next 5 years, no doubt. Kazmir just the kinda Ace you want.
18-1 hell of a season regardless

Telling you. Win with young guys, sign them longterm, fans will come.

Fans love having young player they can identify, call their own, and watch grow up. They'll come out to watch these guys especially if they keep playing good baseball.

See Barry Zito. A left-hander of Kazmir's youth/talent would probably command well over 10 mill a year. Probably why he signed a relatively short extension, so he can really cash in when he hits his prime. He's only 24 iirc.

Because it's a warehouse with a field in it.

Tropicana Field wasn't built at the same time the Devil Rays became an expansion team (which was 1998 if I'm not mistaken). It was a five year project finished in 1990 in hopes that a major league ball club would come (I believe it was intended for the White Sox for relocation purposes), and it sort of just stayed there. So, it's not really that new.

Plus... it's a warehouse with a field in it.

It was built to bring in the Giants. In fact there was a St. Petes Giants logo made up. I saw it once and it's very rare.

Does Tropicana still have BYOB and free parking?
