Tell you what to those who can't buy a walk, try to go an entire game (just for fun) without taking a single swing, I did last night and drew 5 walks in an entire game.

      Heh.

Just got done with a marathon session of gameplaying and testing as the St. Louis Cardinals. In 15 nine inning games played on All Star difficulty with custom sliders set:

12 Homeruns. (Rolen 3, Edmonds, Drew, Pujols, and Tino with 2 each, and Renteria with one.) (I suspect that number might be a little low, as I was facing a lot of #1 type starters; in one game we roughed up the Pirates relief corps for four HR in the 7th and 8th at PNC)

22 Walks (Pujols and Edmonds tied with 3 each, Martinez, Rolen, Vina, Renteria, and Matheny with 2 each, a bunch of other folks with one apiece)
Walks are fairly easy to get, once you start to get things down.

I have fanned cpu batters to the tune of 5.5 per 9 innings. Matty Mo by far leads this stat, although Woody and Tomko managed a couple of good games. Of these k's, 1.67 per were recorded as "caught looking" strikeouts. That seems a bit low, still experimenting with this CPU slider.

If you can't get any walks in the game, it's because you're either playing over your head in difficulty, or you lack the patience to get a feel for things. I didn't earn a walk until the fourth game I played. The advice of not swinging until the CPU has at least one strike on you is very sound.

Good numbers, nice to see the HRs are insane, at least so far.
be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those that mind, don't matter.

i played on alstar with the settings low also maybe your right maybr it works in reverse
maybe i need to turn the cpu pitch ability up and he will throw more balls
even with pitch aid on so i can see the pitches i get to 2-2 and 3-2 but then i either pop out on a k' pitch (i check in the espn replay)
          or they k me looking)
          or i miss on a k
i am patent trust me 125 to 140 pitch counts with only 6-8 hits and no walks is patient!

On hardest levels the CPU will try to bait you in to swinging at bad pitches.
At least thats the way it's supossed to do. On last year's version I dint walk that much. I'll get 2k3 on my lunch break. Can't wait! .

Brill advice. I just started this - not just taking the first pitch, but taking pitches until the count is X-1. It requires discipline, which I don't have a lot of.

Also - maybe this is a result of playing Pro, or of playing against 5th Starters - I am seeing that pitchers are attacking zones on a specific hitter. They're not going down and in, then high and ouitside. All the pitches start to congregate around an area.

The more pitches you take, the more of a clue you get as to what they are trying to do to you.
