Also in 989's defense, i love how MLB2004 turned out...the very first MLB was the FIRST baseball game that got me hooked to the sport, all they needed to do was update a few things....

they already had a winning formula on their hands...canceling the games the past 2 years hurt them a lot though

        Simple,

Many kids and parents buy games without researching the games. Some companies need only to have a product on the shelf to sell. They are not concerned with being the best but rather turning a little profit.

I was just gonna say that. Its mostly kids who just happen to walk into the store, look at the game and tell their parents they want it. Besides, it will be a easier selection from a parents standpoint because it should be in the bargain bin in no time. Thus making it cheaper fo all those poor kids who have to buy a game based off the price tag, like I use to be.

First of all, 989 is not third party. It is Sony. They kept the 989 name for branding purposes.

This is all about money. If a company can put out a game using their engine from the year before and only doing roster updates or something, it will probably still make money if they had a good following the year before. This means minimal cost to produce the game and maximizing profit. The bar analogy is not a good one because it has nothing to do with production has everything to do with marketing.

Triple Play sold well last year even though it was anything but critically acclaimed. Why pay a large team of programmers if they know that they will sell a lot of copies anyway. This is not good for us, but it is good for them.

That being said, I can't believe it took Sony so long to put out their baseball game.
