Anyone see the ejection of Manuel & Beltran?

Brian Runge should be suspended for a month. Simply uncalled for. He tries to make Carlos go ballistic, Manuel protects his player like he should, then Runge purposefully bumps him. Then he has the nerve to toss the manager out. Beltran is rightly ticked off & mouths off @ Runge, so the ump throws him out as well. Deplorable behavior. He should be publicly reprimanded, the MLB should offer an apology to Manuel, Beltran & the Mets org, & Runge's month long suspension should come w/a ban from the playoffs this year. Unexceptable actions by Runge.

Re: Anyone see the ejection of Manuel & Beltran?

I've heard stories of how umpires these days are running around like they're mini gods or something and that they don't take ANY kind of criticism. What Runge did was way over the line and if MLB doesn't suspend him then I don't know what it'll take.

I felt really bad for Manuel and Beltran there, moreso for Manuel because he was heated up but he didn't initiate the contact. It's as if Runge didn't want to hear what Manuel would keep saying for the rest of the game and just kicked him out.

I'd sure as hell like to know exactly what Manuel said that made Runge do that.

what Runge did was above and beyond. Yes, I know "balls and strikes" are not allowed to be argued. However, I did not see anything wrong with what Beltran did originally - and mind you he didn't even look at the ump either (which normally gets you the hook right there).
Then Runge steps out and basically confronts Carlos (that BS about wiping off the plate?) and Manuel was doing what any manager should be doing - sticking up for his player (so that he doesn't get tossed).

What happened next was just garbage, and makes me believe even more so that umps feel they are above the game.

I tell you this - Umpires have not been the same since that failed "union coup" years back.

Runge was looking to run someone out of the game. I don't think Manuel had to say anything. I would love to hear what the Jays catcher heard. This looked like a situation akin to what Milton Bradley went thru to end last season.

Once again an umpire that thinks fans pay their hard earned money to watch them.

Angel Hernandez is another guy that has a God complex when he's behind the plate.

I think a suspension is more than likely considering the incident with Milton Bradley last year, and that ump didn't even touch anyone.

That would be nice, but we all know he'll pull a Sgt. Shultz just like Helton did last year..."I know nothing!"

Runge is the worst, has been for years. It amazes me how this asshat can continually run out there unchecked.

Runge pulled some similar crap earlier this year against the Twins. Brendan Harris tried calling time and Runge did not grant it to him. The pitcher threw a pitch after Harris stepped out of the box and Runge called him out on strikes. Harris could have been hit by the pitch and seriously hurt as he didn't see it coming. Gardy came out and argued with him and you could read Runge's lips as he was saying F-U and he tossed a relatively calm Gardy. Runge then called 6 straight strikes (some of which weren't close). You could see that he completely let the ejection effect his strike zone.

That explains why my fantasy scoreboard had Beltran with only one AB. Those actions were disgusting. MLB better get rid of this fool Runge. There is no place for that at all in the game.

Wasn't his father an ump? The name sounds very familiar.

I'm pretty sure the Jays catcher didn't hear a thing since he was in another country. Now, the M's catcher probably heard something. Of course he's Japanese, so he can use the English language card.

Runge is a pile, however, it was a strike.

Yep, Paul Runge. Who was a 2nd generation umpire himself (have no idea who his father is).

that could be tough - seeing that the Mets played the Mariners last night

man - I really miss Eric Gregg as an ump. The dude called a good game, let the guy have their say, and knew how to take a joke (I remember Howard Johnson leaving a cheeseburger on top of 3b years ago, and he just laughed)..
