uh, Josh was a first overall pick. And considering how "awesome" our farm system is/was we could've given him a shot.

Oh wait you're right. Angel Pagan, Cliff Floyd, Matt Murton and Sam "f***ing" Fuld are just pure beasts.

      What was I thinking??

Man....if you guys had kept Hamilton, you'd probably be in first place this year.

        Oh wait.

I think the Reds and Cubs had a deal in place to trade before they even drafted Hamilton. Not sure though.

Also I think the Trib would've made orders for the baseball team to kick his butt out of the organization once he was in the throes of his drug addiction and such.

Considering the fact that he was left available in the Rule V draft pretty much meant that no one else wanted him.

Let alone the fact that he hadn't played any baseball in the three years prior, no one could have seen this coming. Relax.

Besides, I think it is worse that the Astros gave away Johan Santana to the Marlins, who in turn gave him away to the Twins for Jared Camp.

Yeah, but no trade in history can top the Trade of Alex Rodriguez to the Pirates for Pokey Reese

Let me help you guys out here because you obviously need it.

                      1) This organization will pull in bank year in, year out. All the team has to do is give the fans a ray of hope and Wrigley will fill 38,000 strong every game, every year.

Why they would draft this kid and then trade him for cash considerations is beyond me. Why even bother?? Is what, a couple hundred thousand worth it when they will bank every year anyway??? It makes no damn sense.

                      2) As I stated earlier in the thread, our farm system is not all that. It's solid, but not solid enough to the point where they couldn't give a former number 1 overall pick a fighting chance. The players I mentioned above in my other post we're our best outfield prospects at the time for right field. Pie was supposed to fill the void in center and the Cubs just got done signing Soriano. You guys say that rule 5 players are basically nothing anyway. You're telling me with Josh's insane talent, regardless of his past, that you wouldn't give him a shot???!!? Who do you think you're bullsh*****g??? What's the worst that could happen??? He only gets to AA and doesn't make it??? Wow, never heard of that scenario before.

So I just don't get it. Was the trade to Cincy to ease the pain of the 136 mil they just dropped on Alfonso?? The bottomline is.......they f***** up. Period.

Rule V players have to stay on the 25 man roster all season or they have to be sent back to the original team.

You, sir, need to learn how the rule five works...but another poster pointed that out already, so no need to continue to bang that drum.

I think you need to learn your own system first. Pie was supposed to be a can't miss prospect, but he missed, it happens. In 2006, Josh Hamilton was a recovering drug addict that hadn't played baseball in 3 years. You have to keep him on the 25 man roster on your major league team. CF wasn't a need last year either, with Soriano playing CF.

For the Cubs, their thinking is "We have to win", so you can't waste a roster spot on a rule 5 guy that will never play for you. Rule 5 is for players to get a chance to play on a team because the other team had no room for them. The Cubs, at that point, did not have any room for him.

This is just hindsight is 20-20. It happens.

I'm aware of how the Rule 5 draft works, thanks.

All I know is Josh could've been part of this team and he's not. Also look at our outfield for the past two years with the exception of Soriano.

I guess Sam Fuld/Cliff Floyd is a better option.

I would've loved Josh Hamilton roaming CF for us and not light hitting CF Brian Anderson.
