      First sentence, I agree.

Second one.......ewww. Isn't she like 60 now?? Gross.

I don't have a problem with him leaving, but I do have a problem with him not participating in the Derby. You add these things up and he is a real diva.

Heard a story of Hank Aaron doing it before. Not a big deal to me. It's an exhibition game and it is not like they get a lot of time off during the season.

Because he doesn't want to **** up his swing? The derby is pointless.

Trust me, I'll the first to say the game and players were better when I was a kid. But don't forget, back in the day guys like Mantle and other big stars would show up to games and play drunk from the previous night of post game fun. Nobody ever accused them of not being team players.

Nothing new...guys have done this in years past. If the media didn't mention it, no one would've known

                  If only that were true.

The last time A-Rod played in the derby (2002), he went 6-16 with 4 HR's in his first four games after the break. In the first full month back, he hit .331 with 11 HR's and ended up with 30 HR's after the break...so I don't see how he says it messes up his swing. As those numbers are far beyond his career averages. It would seem that for A-Rod, the derby actually helps his swing.

Lets face it he didn't want to be embarrased in front of his home crowd. The guy can't perform under pressure and because the HR derby in an individual event, he wanted no part of that pressure.

A-Rod has participated 3 times and each time he finished in 6th place....maybe that has something to do with it.

Lol I was wondering how long it would take someone to mention that. They showed him in the dugout constantly.

Hmm, someone reads a lot of ESPN.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Or perhaps, just perhaps, he wanted to a take one of the very few ****ing days off he gets during the season.

How many of us here would like it if everyone at your company is given three days off, but then they tell you "sorry, you're gonna have to come in for two of those days for some special stuff".
