by "not have to work" you mean work with personal trainers and go to the gym almost every day and having restrictions on what you are allowed to do in your contract while not getting a paycheck?

          Are you even serious?
They make millions I dont think they have a problem with not getting a paycheck during the season.
Matter of fact I think players get paid year round now.

Man some of your post are just plain nuts!! lol

Then why not just say that. Instead of saying it butchers my swing, which it obviously didn't in the past, say "I'm tired, sore and want a day off, but not two days off, because I got to collect my All Star bonus." I mean if he wanted a day off, wouldn't three days have been better? He could/should have just bailed on the whole thing to get healthy/rest.

Honestly, if it wasn't the final one in Yankee stadium, it wouldn't probably have mattered (I mean he hasn't been in on in years and no ones cared), but to be the final derby at one of the most historic parks and to have the lone member of the home team bail out is kind of crappy to the fans of the game.

Haha, you realize the media frenzy that would have generated, right?

His actual excuse is nothing compared to the dogs that would be unleashed on him if he ever said he just wanted a few days off.

We're talking about Alex Rodriguez here. It's either not good enough or terrible. He went with not good enough this time around.

Oh I know, it's not like people don't know the reason anyway.

Because then you have the same people spouting off that hes out of shape, wearing down, etc. No matter what he said it was going to be the wrong reason.

Maybe the guy likes playing in the all-star game but doesnt have fun in the derby. Who really cares. Plenty of players decline the derby invitation for one reason or another.

So just because he makes more money means he shouldnt be able to take his days off? And I was making the point that it isn't like players are sitting around at home waking up to catch the 2:00 sportscenter and eating cheese doodles all day.

What kind of world do you live in when the guy who shoves down old men because he couldn't score him some comp tickets is the one who isn't hated?

It's a weird world but I'm not terribly surprised.

Manny has a fun, care-free attitude so people perceive him that way. When he pushes an old man it's Manny being Manny. People give him a pass because he's expected to do something out of the ordinary. That's why he can make dumb plays in the field and everything's ok so long as he makes a dumb spectacular play the next week.

And I like Manny but you know, it's just how it is with him.

Alex Rodriguez is Mr. Straight Forward. He doesn't really do anything wrong. Just does what an athlete of his ability would do and he gets hated on for it. Sometimes, people just don't like it when a guy is better than them in every magnitude of the word. Alex has the body, looks, money, popularity, and ability. He's the 5-tool celebrity.

Alex is in the Tiger Woods pool. I remember listening to a radio broadcast of the Herd and he was explaining, rightfully so in my opinion, that people like Phil Mickelson more than Tiger because Mickelson represents the everyday man that doesn't look like an athlete. Whereas, Tiger is the ridiculously, in-shape, being with a gifted golf swing and a beautiful wife.

Being on top of the world comes with it's negatives.

I agree with everything you said, but A-Rod is still a primadonna jack***. I'm sorry, but he basically gave Yankee fans the middle digit by not participating in the Derby.

His problem is he acts like he is too good for everyone, or he at least comes off like that.

Giambi wasnt allowed to be in this HR Derby as he didnt make the all star team.
All this years all stars where allowed to be in the Derby.
