Cardenas is in it, supposedly

They just acquired the righthander from the Oakland Athletics today in a trade for minor-league prospects Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman and Matt Spencer. Blanton, 27, is just 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA this season, but the Phillies certainly seem to think he’s an upgrade over what they have.

Is there there a GM in the league better at selling high on players than Beane? Even when a guy is playing like **** he can still make out like a bandit.

Blanton hasn't been nearly as bad this season as his ERA would indicate, but he's still nothing more than a league-average starter. A valuable guy to have in the back of your rotation sure, but not at this cost.

For the record, I predicted this would happen a few weeks ago. I knew we'd get someone, but I also knew that person would be like the starting pitcher equivalent of Turk Wendell. What I didn't know, however, was that we'd actually move one of our best prospects for a guy like that - I assumed it would happen because we were too smart to move a good prospect for a stiff like Blanton.

47-46 career record, with a 4.96 ERA this season and a 5.73 road ERA. Oh, and opponents are hitting .284 off him. Yeah, this is going to work out really well.

Before the season this would've looked sooo much better, his stock was extremely high, and he was a pretty big target by a lot of people...but now this doesn't look so good, hopefully for the Phillies sake he can turn it around.

Someone from Baseball America wrote last week that he'd now rate Cardenas as our best prospect and top 25 in all of baseball.
