Here are several pieces of advice for pitching:
1. Look at the hot/cold zone and always pitch where the hitter is cold.
2. Know your pitcher. If you're using Tom Glavine, make sure to always stay on the outside corner and only occasionally go inside. If you're using a guy like Randy Johnson or Benitez, use a lot of high fastballs.
3. Vary your pitches. Vary the patterns because the AI remembers previous at bats. Vary locations as well.
4. Change-Ups are to be used as change ups. Change ups in the majors usually follow fastballs to fool the hitter and keep him off balanced. Unless your guy throws a circle change (a perfectly capable outpitch) use it only as a 2nd strike pitch after a fastball because of the lack of movement. The only scenario where it can strike a guy out is when you throw 2 fastball strikes before and the guy is sitting on fastball.
5. Always remember to put your d on DP depth when needed.
6. If a pitch is not working, dont use it too much. For instance in my franchise when pitching with Glavine, sometimes I notice a pitch is getting hit, like his sinker, which I usually use as the 3rd strike pitch. It carries through the whole game and I use it less and on lesser pitches. The next game the pitch is fine, but drop it for this game.
