Anyone try turning it off for them?

I think it's one of the options you can switch for them but keep the same for you (hit X to switch between the teams in the options menu in game).

In one game switching back to medium variability, I only scored 2 runs on 7 hits...MUCH lower totals than I had been getting. Great advice, I hope it holds up!

Awesome advice, I'll have to try it out.

I was having a problem on HVP and Legend, where I was hitting even great pitchers too well.

When Mike Mussina grooves a 0-2 heater to MAnny Ramirez every other at bat, I knew something felt off. I'll have to try this out.

I've noticed that the CPU induces way more grounders on Medium Variable. I play with timed hitting, and had to switch to cursor because I was just crushing the ball, as the CPU always left it out over the plate.

Since switching to MV, though, I am struggling to get 8 hits a game (my benchmark for a good average). This game, once you tweak it to your liking, is the greatest game I have ever played, bar none. If I had had this thirteen years ago when I was 12, I would be the fattest person in the world right now.

hi guys, im giong back to medium variable pitching but i want realistic stats!! its driving me nuts tweaking sliders..i want sliders that have real hits, runs, walks, and strikeouts, and i want sliders that are on allstar gameplay not legend!! some guys post sliders that wont do me good because lets say they put down 50 cpu pitching but have it on VERY SMALL cursor (legend) but to me 50 cpu pitching is easier to hit cause i play on allstar small cursor...so someone please send me some great sliders on allstar defaultss

Re: Medium variable pitching is the way to go!

Here's the sliders I've been using. They are not much different than default, minus the CPU eye.

I play on the All-Star level with pitch speed on very high with a small batting cursor.

                      My sliders are as follows:
                      CPU Pitching - 60
                      CPU Batting Average - 60
CPU Batting Eye Balls - 35
CPU Batting Eye Strikes - 35
                      CPU Pitch Strikes - 25
                      CPU Steal - 50

I am getting very realistic stats. I'm playing a series against St. Louis right now and I won the first two games 4-0, and then 4-3. The thrid game I got shelled and lost 6-2. Some games I have it, others I don't, which is very life-like to me. I've played games where I've won 10-0 and the most I've lost by is 8 (a 9-1 shilacking by those freaking Cardinals). Most of my games are very close 1-3 run differentials.

I have a lot of 4-3, 3-2, games. One of the best things I've noticed is when it is Prior (my #1 ace) against the opponents number one guy scores and hits are usually low and it's a pitcher duel just as it should be.

When I have my 4th & 5th man pitching I usually give up an average of 8-10 hits.

You would think that a good combination of CPU pitching ability and variable pitching settings would yield good results. However, shouldn't the pitching ability value be more influential?

Gagnon39, have you tried pitchings settings closer to 100 with high variable seclected?

Okay boys. Please clarify your points here for me. Do you think that variable hitting should be on MEDIUM for the CPU? or do you mean for ME (with me being the player)? I have NO problem hitting the corners and striking people, and I don't seem to throw many big mistakes at all.

So you mean to change CPU Variable Pitching to Medium right?

                              Please clarify.
