    AL MVP Discussion

I didn't see a thread pertaining to this, aside from the one about Dustin Pedroia, so I created a more generalized one without a focus on one player. Thoughts? Comments?

Personally, being an O's fan, and I realize it won't happen, I think Aubrey Huff is deserving of some credit. If the award was "Most Outstanding Player" instead of "Most Valuable Player," I think he would win, hands down. Just take a look.

    Current Stats:
    .316 AVG / .372 OBP / .581 SLG, 31 HR, 44 2B, 92 R, 102 RBI
    Projected Stats:
    .316 AVG / .372 OBP / .581 SLG, 36 HR, 50 2B, 106 R, 117 RBI

AL Ranks (vs. Carlos Quinton / Dustin Pedroia:
    Slugging Percentage - 3rd - 4th - 20th
    Doubles - 3rd - 41st - 2nd
    Runs Batted In - 4th - 6th - 22nd
    Hits - 4th - 34th - 1st
    Home Runs - 5th - 1st - 35th
    Batting Average - 6th - 27th - 1st
    On-Base Percentage - 18th - 6th- 13th
    Stolen Bases - N/A - N/A - 18th

I didn't even think about Huff, good call. He'll get some votes, but isn't a legit threat to win it because noone sees him play. I think there's been 1 Orioles game on national TV this year.

Just like people have mentioned C.C. Sabathia should be in consideration for NL Cy Young, I think Mark Teixeira should be in consideration for AL MVP. The guy is hitting .303, 29 HR, 111 RBI, .404 OBP, and .537 SLG......and .358, 9 HR, 33 RBI, .442 OBP, and .606 SLG since joining the Angels. More importantly his presence in the line-up has helped Vlad, who is now back up to almost hitting .300 when he was hitting around .280 before Tex showed up.

            Justin Morneau should win MVP.

If you give Lee the MVP then he can't get Cy Young. In fact there's some statistical analysis out there that Roy Halladay has had tougher starts compared to Lee who basically has been doing his stuff against creampuffs.

My AL MVP goes to Pedroia

Alex Rodriguez. Others in consideration are Mauer, Pedroia, Kinsler, Sizemore.

Why not? That doesn't make any sense.

I think it will be between Morneau and Pedroia. I am interested to hear your argument for Mauer. PM if you don't feel like cluttering the board.

.410 OBP from the catcher position is huge (second in the AL in OBP), and he is good defensively. He's also first in the AL right now in WARP3 at 11.0, right above Rodriguez's 10.9.

Plus he has an incredible 1.62 BB/K ratio. Second place in the AL is 0.96.

I think Pedroia. If Quentin wouldn't have gotten injured he would have been right there in the hunt.

                            If I had a vote:

                            1. Dustin Pedroia
                            2. Justin Morneau
                            3. Francisco Rodriguez

K-Rod isn't even a top three CLOSER in the AL this year, let alone a top three overall PLAYER.
