    Haha, exactly.

I choose to ignore any argument involving errors and fielding percentage. Terrible metrics.

I agree. What do errors and fielding % tell you? That a player can't field? Can't throw? or Both?

If errors were based strictly on booted balls, it would a strong measure of how well a players glove actually is. It would measure how good or bad of a job he did on fielding balls cleanly that he got to.

It won't tell you how good his range is, how well he positions himself or what kind of jumps he gets on balls, but it would tell you how good he was at fielding balls that he was able to get a glove on.

Up until this year he was the worst fielder in the MLB. This year he brought himself up to being mediocre. Added some range.

Ha, and that is exactly what errors tell you. The problem is that most fans think it also tells you if a player can throw and field, his range, his positioning, and his jump.

          We know it doesn't.

The other problem with errors is that there's human judgment involved with them. Jim the scorekeeper in Houston calls the play an error on Tejada, while Bob the scorekeeper in New York calls the exact same play a hit (letting Jeter off the hook). Errors suck and really don't tell you much of anything.

              Another excellent point.

Jorge Cantu and Edwin Encarnacion are getting their agents to add Gold Glove bonuses into their contracts as we speak.

my god, I didnt think I would see anyone butcher third base as much as Cabrera did for a while, but Cantu came right in and and exceeded all expectations.

Hence why he will be moving to First Base next season.
