a question on manage only, do you wish you had control over the ability to decide on calling a ball or strike after the pitch pick. it is a great mode but half of the decison making is taking away from you and is left up to the CPU.

Yes this is so true. I wish we had little input in MO as far as pitch location is concerned. Good point.

Next year it would easy for them to change the menu. After you select your pitch, instead of just pressing A to pitch (Xbox), you can press A to pitch a strike or you can press some other button to pitch a ball.

Re: Manage only - power vs contact

I absolutely am giddy upon reading this thread. I have been a MO person forever because I want the game to be a simulation, not a test of my digital dexterity. I don't want my d-d to have an outcome over a game. My decision making ability is want I want tested. I love the ASB MO. I don't even use my controller but my remote control(ps2). Makes me feel that I am managing even more. The only thing I wish could be added to the MO would be the ability to also choose pitch location. With that said I play alot of HH. You can set the game to where it is close to MO, by having auto for hitting, etc. When a bunt situation arises, just toggle to manual hitting, get the job done, and toggle back. With this setup in HH, I can choose pitch type and location. The bottom line is that it may be goofy the way I play my ballgames, but its the way I like it. I have the best of both worlds. I bounce back and forth between the two games because both offer what I want in games(love playing at the Polo Gounds). We as gamers are set this year. Look at the choices, there is something out there for everyone. Anyway, thanks for this thread, lets keep it going. We are a rare breed, a special breed, the purist of breeds.

When I manage I put the pitcher on CPU control. I find that to be more realistic and enjoyable.

Re: Manage only - power vs contact

Well, I'm going to offer the opinion that picking only the pitch and not location is more like managing. To me it's akin to the batter swinging at bad pitches. If your pitcher isn't hitting his spots then you have a bad pitcher. If your batter is swinging at pitches two feet outside then he's a bad hitter. As the manager you need to learn how to use these players.

I guess I don't know enough about big league pitching, but do manager's choose location as well as pitch from the dugout. I would imagine the pitcher/catcher duo have a good idea of how to approach a batter before he even steps up there.

So, yeah, I like that you can't choose location, and having managed a lot, I KNOW the pitching is just fine. TOO GOOD, if anything.

Well we kinda know on the power and contact what else is everyone playing on. Do you have pitcher aid on or off do you have normal or exageratted pitches??? Stuff like that. Thanks for any reply.

I use the default settings for manage only mode. I have messed around with the batting and pitching settings, but none of the settings seem to have an affect on the game.

True that. No matter what settings I use I get close 2-1, 1-0, 3-2 games with the occassional high scoring affair. If I got nothing but Coors field games I hate it, but I can handle the pitchers duels. It makes the rare homerun real fun to see.
