Yes High Heat offers great gameplay, however, I think 3DO has really gotten themselves in some competition problems. Once being the ultimate king of baseball )not sales, but gameplay wise) it seems that all the others are catching up or are pretty close.

Gamers are an impatient lot and I have read about all the people who have moved away from HH because of their lack of keeping up in other areas, i.e., graphics (yes they did much better with the animations, but they look sort of cartoony next to the other games), menus, sound (the XBOX cuts out badly) and the same announcers. Now the announcing is good, but it hasn't changed and that's what I think a lot of gamers wanted to see. The repetitive things drove me away from the game, gameplay aside.

True but that's the worst that people keep bringing up about HH...it looks and feels dated, but the gameplay is still fresh. Just take a look at the WSB forum. It's "Sliders this and Sliders that". It's as if Sega included a mini game called sliders in WSB2K3 that's a game in it self.

Where HH shines like you said is in the gameplay which is near perfect. Having played MVP, WSB last year and now HH (XBOX) i'll take HH over the others.

It would be nice if 3DO can update like you said the graphics but even if they don't i'll probably buy next years game as well.

It may not be the prettiest game but you get past that real quick after you play a couple of games.

You know, I don't have a huge problem with the graphics. I love the way the fielders field, the around the horn throw, pitcher view. I love this game. I also like ASB. I am trying to come to just one game, but I can't put either of these two down. I bought WSB, thinking this one would overcome ASB/HH so I could get to one, I was so disappointed. It was terrible in my opinion. I shouldn't be disappointed, I am getting my fix.

I feel the exact same way and have the same experience. I played EWBB, and this other one that I can't remember the name, but it was real and entertaining. When I went to console gaming on the old Sega Genesis, I was stuck for years playing games where the shortstop and 3rd basemen threw with their left hand (AHHH!) Runners only advancing if they were forced, etc. Not being able to double-switch. I grew to accept the shortcomings. I started to gain hope with the Interplay baseball on the PS back in about 95 I think. Then I tried HH and I was really excited. I played HH originally on the PC only trying the console version this year. I love baseball, and simming baseball. We are in the "Good ol' Days" right now. Enjoy.

                Rodster,

I understand what you're saying, but gamers are an impatient lot. I guess what I'm saying is the loyal "gameplay is most important" base that they have will not get them the sales they need to keep the game going. If people are moving away (and a lot of them are) because of other things unrelated to the gameplay then 3DO needs (should have) updated with the times. I hope they do, but it looks like it's another year of waiting.

I've played HH for years, but can't play the game this year. Probably because I played it to death and was expecting more, no sound cut outs, some fresh announcing, crowd sounds, etc. Yes, the animations are an update, but the overall feel of the game is very stale. Not bashing the game as I've played it and played it, just think 3DO needs to do something over the top next year to draw people back.

They don't have to draw me back, I am still waiting for someone to come close to their gameplay. All the games seem to have some cool things about them, but they all lack something in the gameplay that doesn't keep me as involved as I am in HH.

Jim I agree with you. What I was trying to say is what others have said also. That the gameplay in HH is very tight. While other games use the graphics or features hook. HH's hook is that it plays like real BB. True, gamers are impatient and they want a BB game that plays like HH but looks and sounds like MVP/WSB combined. There are those like myself who have tried the other games and come to the conclusion that gameplay wins over looks and sound.

This goes back a few years but I use to play a flight sim called Falcon 3.0 and the same arguement was made back then. The game had a huge following because of it's realism and sold a ton. HH shares a lot with Falcon 3.0

Current numbers show that 3DO is quite pleased with sales of HH2004. Do I want HH2005 to look better than HH2004, you bet. Does it matter to most HH fans, "probably not" as long as the great gameplay continues.

You do make valid points and I hope they do listen to vetern HH fans like you and improve the visuals and sound next year.

I started out with HH this year. Went to MVP and then tried WSB. I have come full circle after experiencing what the other games have to offer. If I'm going to play single player, then I want the game and the AI to represent the real sport as closely as possible.

Rodster, I hear ya. Don't know what the sales figures are and I hope 3DO is seeing how many people have "switched" and traded in their games. These trades-ins don't go against sales, so they don't feel the effect. I'm just afraid that if they don't offer something over the top next year the people who bought it and were disappointed won't buy it next year unless they see something that really is different.

I want 3DO to succeed. I want all these companies go succeed as it makes it better for all of us. I was just really disappointed with what 3DO produced after telling us they had been working on the game for a year.
