Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
I can't even put it into words....
Thank you Greg. Thank you for your poise, your calm, your knowledge of the game. Thank you for relying on your smarts rather than your stuff. It's going to be sad to not be able to watch your mastery anymore.
Best of a generation, and one of the best of all-time. -
Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
One of the greatest pitchers of that generation. As a Cubs fan i hated seeing him pitch for the Braves. That was not the time for the Cubs to be cheap. He should be a first balot hall of famer.MLB: Chicago Cubs
NFL: San Diego Chargers
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
NBA: Chicago Bulls
NCAA: Iowa HawkeyesComment

Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
The first of Atlanta's (former) big three to retire. It's kind of sad to see but i guess we all knew it had to happen eventually.
No question that Maddux is a first ballot HoF. I would kind of like to see Glavine and Smoltz follow his cue so they could all go to Cooperstown together in 2013.Comment

Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
Madd-dog was awesome, except I hate seeing him in the Padre/Dodgers uniforms. I know he started as a Cub and won his first Cy there but best bet is he goes in the Hall as a BraveOriginally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
Thank you Mr. Legend. I am honored to have watched you all these years. I have watched baseball for almost 25 years, and you are the best pitcher of my lifetime. It was amazing to watch you get hitters out without a dominant plus fastball. Your spotting of the fastball, change up, breaking pitches, and the ability to keep even the best hitter off balance were second to none.
I will never forget your 1994 & 1995 years where you posted ERA's of 1.56 & 1.63. Both years you had sub one WHIP's, with an un f'n real WHIP of 0.81 in 1995. Strike year my....
I plan to live until I am 100, and I woud be shocked if I ever see the likes of you again. I will be watching every year.
Thank you again and farewell!!!!Comment

Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
Sad to see him go. He was my 2nd favorite non-Yankee pitcher behind Pedro to watch. I doubt we'll ever see anyone that's like him again. Able to dominate while throwing in the low 90's because of his amazing control.
Here's a good piece by Verducci on Maddux.

Re: Greg Maddux set to retire
Maddux one of the real last "crafty" pitchers in the MLB who could not overpower you but could fool you on almost every pitch!Comment
