    Player development??

anyone know if it affects a players development if you put them in the big leagues too soon???

Reason is I drafed an 18 year old Corner fielder who is a C+ overall, not bad for an 18 year old. I will probably put him in the big leagues at the beginning of my next season.

My advice to you Heelfan is don't just look at his overall rating, but also each individual attribute. The reason I say this is because, a guy could have A speed which would bump his overall rating up but he really isn't prepared to be a big league hitter, or fielder. Look at his contact, his Glove, his Arm, his Patience for sure. When those things are where they need to be, then he's ready.
His speed or fielding might be great, but his contact is C, and his patience is C....that's a formula for disaster in the majors. That's my advice.

yeah, his contact is a C+, on the draft screen it had is current ratings (1 thru 8 I believe) and he as a 5 and 6 on everything now. In the future it said he had all 8's and 2 6's as his ratings.

Very nice....if you don't need him this year...wait til next year...then go for it! Of course, I'm not sure, but if he didn't have great stats while playing, you might stunt his growth. Be sure you need him before you start using him, and good luck!

yeah, that is what I was wondering. Is it possible to hurt their growth by calling them up too soon. I don't need him for another year or two anyways.

Yes, I am in the same boat. Have a CO with a B- rating, and he's 20 yrs old. Presently, I keep having injuries to my outfielders and I'm fighting the urge to call him up. As far as stunting his growth, it's only speculation at this time. I'm afraid guys like us are gonna be the guinea pigs and report back to later players.

Is there a way to see what a player's potential is? I have a bunch of guys in the minors right now with pretty crappy ratings, but is there a way to see if any of them have a chance of panning out? (as in a C- prospect who's only 19. Will he always suck, or will he get better?)

Just like in real life, you just don't know. Even some of the best prospects in baseball don't turn out...then you have some guys that were drafted in the late 40th rounds that turn out to be stars. There is no clear cut way to develope stars, or everyone would be doing it.
