Understood. But spending $423 mil on 3 players who are not even the best at their position is rather, hilarious.

When you add in Pettitte probably getting $10m, they will be right at where they were last year.

Nobody seems to realize this. The Yanks aren't going from a $205 million dollar payroll to $275 million dollar payroll. They are going from a $205 million dollar payroll to a $200-$210 million dollar payroll.
Exactly. But holy ****. No one will talk about that though. We ruined baseball blah blah blah. It's not Hanks fault he has more money than everyone else. His family is willing to spend more money on the team than anyone else. If you all think we are going to lose with all these new asquistions anyway, why do you care?

Buying a World Series lol what a joke. You would all be thrilled to have owners like this, even though you would not admit it. Tell me Brewers fans wouldn't have wanted Hank to get C.C. back? Dodger fans wouldn't want Manny? O's for Tex?

I agree its sad to see the 4 highest paid players in baseball on one team, but this isnt how the yankees won in the late 90's, they won with home grown talent. They're back to losing picks in the draft now and are going right back to where they were in about 2003

They really didn't actually. Mariano, Jorge, Jeter, and Andy. 4 important guys from those years were homegrown.

If there was a cap in baseball ... fans would have to worry about owners like that.

Jerry Jones tried it ... didn't work out too well, Football put in a cap, now it is the most watched sport, and number one in America. Overtaking "America's game". Just for the fact that fanbase grow outside of just Boston, NY, and LA. Due to the competitive edge, and different playoff look every year.

Sure the Sox spend money now too, as well as the Mets and Dodgers. But the money didnt start being spent, until they were tired of being blown out of their division, with the year in year out highest payroll winning it all the time. It is a vicious circle.

Gosh forbid there is a cap, and *gasp*, GM's have to actually use their brains a bit more building a team.

And putting in a "luxary tax" is more a cap deterrent, because it is "free money" coming to the pockets of the small market team owners. Stupid fix for a larger problem.

Mark Teixeira is the best 1st baseman in baseball. CC Sabathia is one of the top 2 or 3 pitchers in baseball. I can't see how anyone would blame the Yankees. They are playing by the rules and make the money.

There would have been no outrage is he had went to Boston and their payroll is outrageous too when comparing the rest of baseball.

So does this mean that the Yankees will be asking for a govt. bail-out in the future?

Is this before or after they paid that tax bill to Selig?

Can't wait to watch it ALL blow-up in thier faces in 2009.
