I bought finally a WSB copy for PS2 and I cant really understands how some peoples love this game, this game is a mediocre baseball game at best, and there is HH, ASB and MVP Baseball, hands down better than this poor game.
Gameplay - Pitching
There is a lot of flaws such pitches looks always the same, there is not difference at all between a curve and a fastball, only the speed, and talking about the speed, is always slow. Batters hot and cold zones are a joke. I can pitch a complete game pitching all the times to the hot zone, and it is the same result as the cold zones.
Batting
Batting in this game does not feel like batting, swing animation are poor, if you swing late, you hit the ball, but you do not see the swing animation!!! Again, the pitch came very unrealistic slow, at any level or any setting, also, hot and cold zones are a joke, it does not matter, does not exist at all, you can crush a pitch in your very cold zone.
Fielding
Another problem, fly ball to right field, and the catch is made by the second baseman, cutoff man does not work fine, double plays is almost impossible because either second or SS came to turn the double play trotting with the same animation used when the inning is over. Out fielder throws are like fly balls, and the dive & jump button is another joke.
Baserunning
You can stole a base with your fasters guys every time you want to, dont worry about the retread the lead, in fact, you dont have to lead off to stolen bases. Enough said.
Graphics and sound
What kind of joke is this? How on this world is possible that this game is getting high rate review on graphics and audio???? When I saw this game in action for the first time, I didnt believed! Is so ugly that I cant describe, faces are horrible, animation and close up are the same for every play, and stupid, the movements that the player made after a play are always stupid and weird, there is not shadows on the field, [even HH have this touch]
Action replays is only showed after a close play at a base, nothing else, the fireworks after a homer made me laugh, please!!!! We are in 2003!!!, there is also collision detections, ball disappear on the crowd, I could go on and never finish. The sound, horrible !!! the play by play is boring, there are like 3 or 4 color commentary lines, the crowd is lazy, the batters music is the same for all the batters, no surround sound, the only good music on this game is the ESPN music, but you heard only at the menu screen.
There are miscellaneous problems like poor AI decision, for example, Luis Castillo on first, no outs, Juan Pierre bunt, and the CPU throw to second !!!! This game is a big let down for me, after reading great things about this game, I decided to bought, and what I bough is a very mediocre baseball game at best, the only thing that can be do with this game is sim seasons [personally I dont like it] cause the great franchise mode that the game offer, beside that, the game play, look and sound very poorly against the competition.
