From the day they made the trade and still today, I say the Reds should not have traded for Griffey.

I'm not talking about him getting injured a lot, or being unhappy either. I'm referring to the fact that the team they had the year before was a first-place squad. They broke that up to bring in Junior. If they had gotten him through free agnecy it would have been a different story, but I hate when teams mess with a winning formula.

I know it wouldn't have been popular to hear that the Reds turned down a trade offer from the M's that would bring Grif to the Nati, but I believe that they would have been a better overall team over these past few years.

Man you don't know what you talkin about, this is gonna be come back season, if he don't do nottin, than I see you, but this is his come back season. Look who they got now, their offense runs every night, but there pitching may need some help. I don't think they had a first place squad before...?

        Re: Cincinnati Reds

I don't mean literally a 1st place team, but a team that had a very good shot at it. In '99, the year before they got Griffey they won 96 games and only finished a game and a half out of first-place. In the 4 years before that, the wins had gone down from like 85 to 77 or something, but as soon as the team has a great season, they changed it up.

I could see them making the deal if the team sucked in 99, but not making the deal means that same team would have had a chance to get better and they would still have the majority of the young players they have now. The pitching staff would probably be better, because as cheap as the Reds are, all that money wouldn't be tied up into one player and they would be more flexible to fill in the holes here and there.

Griffey may have a monster year, but in that park the opponents will too.
