Rangers Young staying...and agrees to play third base

And so it begins, another position for young to play. Hopefully the transition is smooth. I am glad that young isnt going anywhere and that another potential star is comin up. Hello Elvis andrus!

Elvis has entered the building and he's moving bodies along the way.

Good for Texas that Young decided to let this go. Young probably thinks he's really a Gold Glover, but I think Texas knows he shouldn't be.

Read this earlier, and I'm so happy Young will remain in Arlington.

That line-up is STACKED. Now, if we could get any pitching. Of course, that's been the story of the Texas Rangers for a very, very long time.

Young's bat loses a bit of value moving him to 3B, but his atrocious glove won't be as large of a factor anymore. He needs a bounce back year at the plate for this move to be much more than Texas severely overpaying for a 2.0 WAR third baseman, instead of severely overpaying for a 2.5 WAR SS. One season isn't nearly large enough sample size to be a trend, but Young is leaving his prime and that should be cause for a little worry for him to continue downward.

I was originally thinking 1st, but then what do they do with Chris Davis? I'm guessing one of them DH's.

Exactly. Chris Davis > Blalock. Blalock will probably DH against RHP, and back-up Davis when he needs a break.

Rangers should have traded Blalock a couple of years ago when he actually had some value.

Blalock is strictly a DH hitter now. Of course he will privde deoth at 1st and 3rd should osmething happen but hes the DH now. As far as pitching. I hate GM daniels so much. So much to the point if I saw him in public we would have serious issues. This has been the problem for way to long and its ******** that thye wont find the money to buy the talent they need. Hopefully with ryan and maddux, they find 2-3 gems this year that can help fix that problem. THen once they get good, daniels can find a way not to afford them and trade them like every piece of talent texas has had. I am so weary. I am like a withered traveler finallly keeling over waiting fro this team to not only make the playoffs but actually wi a series in them.

Young had no alternative. No one was going to take on that contract and it wouldn't make sense for Texas to pay him to play somewhere else. I would think his glove would be average over at third, though it depends on how he responds initially. Arod was a better shortstop than Young and it took him a good half season to get comfortable at third.

True that arod was a better shortstop, but dont take anything away from young either my man. I have been watching him for years now and hes a dynamite fieldr as well as a phenominal contact hitter. Hes a leader and really the rangers can say all they wanted about trading him but they werent gonna do that. Hes to valuable to the organization. He will do fine at third. Arod had alor of expectation in NY to not only produce offensively, but they wanted him to be an automatic gold glover as well. Lots of pressure that made him make mistakes. Once he settled in and was used to playing a new position in a new city with high demands he was fine. Young hopefully will make a wuicker adjustment. I am more worried about the guy taking his spot.

I never thought I'd see the day where "Michael Young" and "dynamite fielder" were used in the same sentence.

I've been watching him for years, and while he's not a "dynamite fielder," he isn't nearly as bad in the field as some people make him out to be.

No way the Rangers could trade their absolute leader.

Ok when i mean dynamite I am not talking chase Utley good, but hes reliable and while not having the strongest arm he is very accurate. Deosnt make a whole lot of errors.
