He doesn't commit a lot of errors because he doesn't get to a lot of difficult balls in the first place, it's the same story as the "gold glover" in NY.

You can't commit an error on a ball that you don't get to.

In an interesting twist the Rangers appear interested in signing Omar Vizquel as insurance in case Andrus is not ready to play at the big league level.

        Oh goodness.

Every advanced fielding stat in the world says that Young is below average at short.

Michael Young is one of those players who, if evaluated purely on stats, would be considered an average to above average player. He's nothing special by the numbers, similar to a Jason Varitek or a Derek Jeter. That is, for the hype they're given, their stats don't match up.

He will be an interesting player for fantasy drafts. The SS / 3B eligibility will be good.

Yeah, but no one in this thread said that Jeter was a "dynamite fielder". Don't understand why his username comes into play here. He's just pointing out Michael Young is not dynamite according to any fielding metric.

Funny, he's one of the few Yankees fans in existence that doesn't see Derek Jeter as Ozzie Smith reincarnate with the glove.

What I find funny about this is the fact that the relationship between Young and the GM is pretty bad -- and getting worse from reports written..

Man I know. The balls of daniels is amazing! I hate that guy sooooo much. He is by far the worst for the rangers. He stinks at building relationships with players, he sucks at the FA market, and the ONE I will never forgive him for is hes awesome at having a ton of phenoms in the system but calls them up and trades them later. It kills me the amount of talent we have had in texas and I get to see them display it for other teams. Young has earned his say and at the very least you have a sit down with him and ask his opinion about the move. You dont order around the leader and the center of that locker room and make him look like hes just average joe who does what hes told. I hate that about some of the so called "leaders" in every industry. Daniels needs to read a couple of john maxwell books or hes gonna be suckin at life. Good thing nolan ryan talked to young.

While I'm not going to say Young is a great fielder because he isn't, stats don't show everything. What you're saying is like saying a basketball player isn't good because he doesn't score points or get rebounds. Ok maybe that's a bit exaggerated, but hopefully you get the point. He makes his fair share of good plays, and for the most part doesn't do too much to cost them games.

The Rangers need to fire Daniels. They aren't going to win anytime soon with him at the helms. All this is...is bad publicity for a bad team.

Stats don't show everything, but thankfully, the advanced stats that are out there do a better job than the human eye to show the most.

What Young does well enough is make the routine plays. He doesn't botch those on the regular. That may not be considered a great skill in terms of having some range, but it's still a skill nonetheless. I give him credit for that.

So, when you watch him you may feel that he doesn't hurt the team because he's not making mistakes on the field. But, he is hurting the team if he isn't getting to balls that average shortstops do get to.

Apparently, this kid Elvis has great range. People complain about his errors, but if the kid is truly getting to a great number of balls than his errors will undoubtedly be high. A lot of errors doesn't necessarily mean being a poor fielder.

The positive for Young is he'll be at the hot corner now. You need less range there, and he's already shown an ability to make the plays right at him. That's a good skill to have there.

That line-up is STACKED. Now, if we could get any pitching. Of course, that's been the story of the Texas Rangers for a very, very long time.
Stacked yes...but due to saying buh-bye to Edinson Volquez in exchange for Hamilton.
