Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
From what's in that NY Post article, I don't see where you people are saying he's slamming the organization and its' players.
He says the PLAYERS called Rodriguez "A-Fraud". Why not wait until the book is released to see the full quotes about "primadonnas" and the "Single White Female" before passing judgment?
That article is a sensationalized piece of crap.Comment

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
From Verducci:
SI.com: Two New York newspapers are reporting that Joe Torre rips Alex Rodriguez and George Steinbrenner in the book, and that Brian Cashman was not as supportive of Torre returning as Yankees manager after the 2007 season as was previously believed. What can you tell us about these reports?
Verducci: I think it’s important to understand context here. The book is not a first-person book by Joe Torre, it’s a third-person narrative based on 12 years of knowing the Yankees and it’s about the changes in the game in that period. Seems to me the New York Post assigned this third-person book entirely to Joe Torre and that’s not the case. In fact, if people saw that Post story they probably noticed there are no quotes from Joe Torre in it. Joe Torre doe not rip anybody in the book. The book really needs to be read in context.
Anybody who knows Joe, especially during his time in New York, knows he’s a very honest man and he is very honest in the pages of this book. People also know Joe Torre doesn’t go around ripping people and he doesn’t do that in the pages of this book. There is a lot of information in this book over a tremendous period of baseball history. It’s been reported out by me as well as informed by Torre’s own insights into that period.

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
The article from the Post alone was horribly written.
NY is full of such scumbag writers. It's amazing how they'll take something and expand on it to the point of lies."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

...lol
Also, speaking of the article, almost anyone "involved" has stated that all of this is out of context...including Cashman.Comment

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
I think it is wrong to "air dirty laundry" just because you are unhappy. However, I also think the Yankees as a whole were wrong to Torre as well -- for starters, they never mentioned him in the closing ceremonies at all.
Of course, we are hearing some "juicy" stuff now perhaps just to stir the pot, so to speak.

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
Let's make it clear because it still causes confusion.
Joe Torre wasn't mentioned in the closing because the Yankees only honored men that played for the team.
In retrospect, if Torre is upset, then Casey Stengel should be turning green and tearing down walls."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
Verducci is on WFAN with Francesa right now, and confirming that it's not "Joe Torre Unleashed" or anything like that.
Didn't run with it when I saw that the Post was behind it. The only time I would bother looking at that rag was if someone left it behind on the train... It wasn't even worth the 25 cents that it cost.Comment

Re: Wow...Torre SLAMMIN' the Yankees
I should add that Stengel was mentioned along with the early great teams. But, that was handled differently.
The Yankees clearly did not honor their recent championship teams by name. They didn't have guys walk on the field from those recent years. So, I'm assuming people wanted Torre to get special recognition.
He wasn't going to be mentioned on the screen because he didn't play for the Yankees. He wasn't mentioned elsewhere because the Yankees didn't make an extra effort to honor their most recent championship teams the way they honored the old champions."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
