Re: Players refusing to talk with you

I'm using the Pirates, and I just looked at a couple "one-year-left" players and Craig Wilson was one of them... he said, "Does not want to re-sign"... so I packaged him and D'Amico and shipped them off to ChiSox for Bartolo and a prospect. Bartolo only has one year left too, but I just felt like upgrading a starting pitcher.

That's the best thing to do, if it looks like it a player won't resign or will cost a small fortune to resign you may want to think about unloading him for some younger more inexpensive talent before the trade deadline. I am facing that same problem with Sheffield, he has 1 yr left and won't neotiate with me, so come deadline time he may be off to Seattle for Cameron and Rhodes or somewhere else. It makes the game so real!

I let Shef go until Free Agency along with Maddux and I still got them back, and at a cheaper price than before too.

I had some guy tell me he was going to test free agency, so I offered him a deal with a few extra points thrown in and he was happy to come back into the fold. Did't overspend too much either

See that's the dilemma. Do you try and trade someone that doesn't want to negotiate a contract and get something in return OR take a gamble that he will re-sign come Free Agency. In my case, Hatteberg mentioned he won't negotiate during the season. If his loyalty is relatively high, I will take the chance..if not...its time to wave bye bye.
