    Bob Costas joins MLB Network

Not sure if i'm too thrilled at the thought of having to listen to Costas call play-by-play again but it doesn't sound like he will do all of the networks telecasts just some of them. Sounds like he will mostly do documentary type programs for the network.

Not the biggest fan, but it's a good get for the fledgling network... just his overwhelming smugness puts me off. Certainly beats the various interchangeable ex-relievers they've introduced lately, though.

I'm loving the channel in general; the Costas signing is more for PR pull. All they have is HR and Al Leiter and a bunch of nobodys...On a side note, I wish they'd show some of the actual good series like the 92' NLCS, 97' series, '01 ALDS instead of the '05 WS

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Some real analysis from somebody would be nice too, so far they're not providing anything you can't get a hundred other places.

Bob Costas gets on my nerves now.

I use to like him in small doses on certain broadcasts, or on HBOs Inside the NFL.

Ever since the Summer Olympics when he refered to Carmelo Anthony's corn-rows as "modified dreadlocks" I've black-listed him.

I agree. I want to see real classic games not games from the recent past. However, it does seem like every week they are going backwards thru the post-seasons so we may eventually get to those.

But they have only been showing the WS. If they're going to show something from 2005 show that 18 inning game between the Braves and Astros. Now that was an exciting game. As much heartbreak as that game brought me that day and still does to this day since it's the last game the Braves have played in the playoffs it was still great to watch.

MLB Network had to get their own personally Braves basher in Mitch Williams. I thought I was done listening to that with ESPN and John Kruk but I guess I was mistaken.

Did you guys hear the ridiculous things he said about Derek Lowe?

Oh and I can't personally stand to listen to Harold Reynolds talk. So far my favorite analyst on there has been Al Leiter.

Mitch Williams is the worst of all of their "analysts" (with Joe Magrane a close 2nd).

Reynolds, Larkin, and Leiter seem to be the mainstays and they are not too bad overall. I'm used to Reynolds so he doesn't bother me.

I like that Leiter sees things for how they are when talking about free agent rumors and contracts basically saying in a bad economy if this is what is out there for you then take it, don't wait for a big money deal that is not coming.

On the flip side of that is Larkin who still thinks too much like a player, as is evident every time they talk about Manny Ramirez. Larkin is on the Manny/Boras train with why sign a 1 year $25 million dollar contract when eventually when the moon is full and the planets are properly aligned someone will give him a 3 or 4 year deal for the money he wants.

Overall i do prefer Hot Stove over most of the crap on ESPN right now and i wonder how BBTN will stack up against MLBN all night coverage of news scores highlights and live look in's when the season starts.

                  I agree.

I personally don't think BBTN has a chance being that they only show a little bit here and a little bit there.

Let's just hope MLBN doesn't do what ESPN does and only focus on the Mets, Red Sox, Yanks and Phils. Spread the love around.

SCEA is doing the same thing with their cover athletes. They had 4 years in a row with a guy from a west coast team and 4 years in a row with a guy from the northeast. What about the middle of the country for a change?

Last time I checked every team started the season 0-0. Last time I checked there were 30 MLB teams.

Last time I checked 8 made the playoffs. Last time I checked there are fans scattered all over the nation with fans of all 30 MLB teams that care about their team and want info about their team.

But I don't expect fans from any of those teams to understand where I'm coming from.

What all shows does the MLB Network have besides reshowing old series? I've come across a Hot Stove show once, but I don't know its schedule. Does the channel have any regularly schedules shows yet?

I'm not into reliving the past too much, I'd rather watch summaries of great games and series rather than the whole game in entirety. So I haven't been getting much out of the channel yet.

Seriously tho all networks are more likely to show things that more people have an interest in and like it or not more people have an interest in the larger market teams.

                            Yes.

Monday or Wednesday nights they have a show called Baseball Seasons. I'm not sure which night it's on. Where they go back to a certain year and relive everything that happened that year.

Tuesday nights they have a show called Ken Burn's Baseball. This guy named Ken Burns goes back and looks at history events of baseball.

Thursday nights they have homerun derby night where they show past homerun derbies.

Friday nights they have World Series highlights. It's a 90 minute show where they go in depth to a past World Series with interviews and stuff from people who were a part of that series.

Yes I understand that but ESPN get's locked on that stuff and the rest of baseball doesn't matter to them sometimes and if the Red Sox are playing the Yankees they act as if the world is about to end.

The Red Sox/Yankees "rivalry" is the most OVERRATED rivalry in the history of professional sports. There are millions more people that couldn't give a rats arse about that than there are the ones that do care about it. But try telling that to ESPN.
