If I were a doctor I would recommend to young athletes that they do not take steroids or read posts from MaverickisBack as both are detrimental to one's health...

Putting aside the ridiculous crusade that seems to be the agenda for this topic, I care who is on 'roids because I care about baseball. And I care about the integrity of the Hall of Fame. I am of the belief if you're a player and caught doing steroids you should not be allowed into the Hall of Fame. Rose and the members of the "Black Sox" both tarnished the integrity of the game and as such will never be enshrined in Cooperstown. The same fate awaits the likes of Bonds, Clemens, and now Arod. I would also throw McGwire into the mix since the guy won't deny Canseco's claims. The players will take the brunt of the punishment but of course MLB is just as much to blame for turning a blind eye to this epidemic for as long as it did. I'm thankful for the testing that has come of this, though as Senator Mitchell recommended, I would prefer independent testing. Unfortunately this stuff is going to go on until there are no more sexy names to throw out there. If we don't hear anymore about the 103 remaining names on this list it won't be because no one knows them, but because none of them are interesting.

Ruth didn't have an unheard of spike in production at the age of 36 and maintain it until he was 39. If you can find any other example of a non suspected steroid user playing at a level well beyond anything he ever did in his career prior to his latter 30s, I'll be highly, highly surprised.
ok....here are peeps and go look them up...Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, Dave Stewart, Dennis Eckersley all had a spike in production towards the end of their careers.

Also when he started hitting them regularly started in '96 I believe he started dabbling in the stuff around '97 or '98 so again kind of murky waters.

I'm not going to convince you otherwise so i'll just ask you this:

If some guy came up to you and told you he could make you a superstar in your sport but you'd die a painful death at a relatively young age would you do it?
How are is 40 homer season anamolies if he did it a bunch of times...steroids is NOT a death sentence...point to the incidents of supervised steroid use that killed someone....if steroids were so bad you should be able to come up with tons...please give names (warning dont give Alzado...his own doctors said it wasnt steroids)

There are tons of studies about the dangers of steroids and other PE's both physically and mentally, I happen to know the authors of books about the subject, doctors with articles in the New England Journal of Medicine and people hired by the NFL to try and help deal with current and former players with steroid related issues, both physical and mental.

Young athletes would be wise to ignore anything you have to say about the subject, injecting politics and race into your twisted "theories" does little to help your total lack of credibility.

I know nothing about ballet, so I don't spout off about it with my own crackpot theories or start threads about it.
First off I never said young athletes should take it...but please give specifics on how steroids cause longterm problems....please give names of athletes who died or whose lives have been destroyed because of the effects of steroids. If you are going to say I am talking out my arse...be bold enough to PROVE IT!!!!

Athletes are going to use whatever they can get away with, especially with the money involved. I blame MLB for their lack of a policy and the public witch hunt that has followed.
Players have also been using supplements and eating better. They also sleep on better beds, they also travel further, face speciality relievers and are scutinized by the media alot more....in the end you cant compare the past generations to the current...steroids or not.

Please point to where i said young athletes should take roids...please point to where i said ANYONE should take roids. I just dont care about it...its alot to do about nothing. IF its an epidemic please show me the dead people...AIDS is an epidemic and i can show you people who died...tons of them. I cant do that with roids. I cant show you lots of people nor anyone who died...CAN YOU!!!! As far as the HOF integrity...do you think Bonds would not be in the HOF...he was headed there anyway...the integrity to me would be lost if the greatest baseball player who ever lived was not in there. ditto for Clemens. Do you really think that they wouldnt be HOF w/o roids?

Rose and the BlackSox did the EXACT opposite...they questioned whether or not players were giving their all...and if games were fixed. Roid users are giving it their all and then some...and according to you are risking their lives to do so.

Also their are 103 names....how many are HOF bound...if roids does sooo much they should be the top 103 guys in the game. According to the Bonds haters...roids can give you an extra 30 homers and make a 30 homer guy into a 70 homer guy. so a 1 homer guy should now be a 30 homer guy. If Luis Sojo took roids he should be hitting 30 homers yearly....right? Also all 103 of these guys should be feeling severe side effect in a few year...so in lets say 20 years we should hear about like 103 dead or severly messed up baseball players right....give me a break.

Re: Does Anybody Really Care about who juiced...does it matter?

You guys will believer whatever the media tells you...they say steroids is bad and is an epidemic and you believe it...

Meanwhile....I dare people here to show me examples of responsible steroid use that led to severe longterm problems

btw...an epidemic means that it is happening to sooooooo many people...so dont give me one example give me a few. Make sure you give me responsible users...not some dude who was sticking dirty needles in his arm and got an infection.

I am not saying teens should take it (but I would like some examples of teens who have been negatively effected being that its alllegedly an epidemic amongst them.)

Steroids make muscles bigger...and little else...now baseball has shown that muscle alone wont hit homers...otherwise Ozzie Canseco would be a homerun hitter and Alfonso Soriano would be a NOBODY. Rob Deer would have waaaay more homers than Hank Aaron

Which brings me to my next point...why do steroids seem to help some guys and not others...Ozzie Canseco couldnt get out of the cards system taking roids...meanwhile, Bonds hits 70 homers. Thats a big difference....whats the difference. Steroids are the same....but skill is different. Steroids clearly cant create skill out of thin air...it has to already be there.

This thread is being closed.. Talking steroids is one thing, but bringing up race and politics in this discussion is another.

          Sorry
