The farthest he slips is to #2 and that's only if the Nats are terrified of what he's going to command. At #2 the M's have the money and are willing to risk spending it on him.

Here he is against Utah last year when he K'd 23 batters. Look at the late movement on his yacker.

That curve/whatever the hell that is...wow.

He better be careful, because this seems like a guy who may have some big arm problems down he line.

Apparently it's his slider, which tops out at 94-95. Good luck hitting that.

If they skip him then my other favorite team, the Mariners, will take him. It's a win/win for me.

EDIT: That slider isn't coming from a human being. That's impossible.

By that, throwing it at all three levels compared to ones that only threw it ONCE, and more than likely were calibration anomalies. But clearly you read the parentheses.

He also has a filthy curveball. Combine that with 97-99mph consistent fastball, the hitters might as well swing with eyes closed.

That kid obviously throws hard, but watching that video... he rarely hits his spot. The catcher's mitt is moving all over the place, and a lot of the fastballs are left up in the zone. If he doesn't work on his control, major league hitters will be able to hit it.

Yes, he does need to work on that, but how many 20 year olds throw 97-100mph and regularly hit their spots? Gooden is the only pitcher I can remember in recent history that was able to do that before the age of 22-23. Maybe Clemens, but I don't remember his fastball being consistently in the upper 90's.

                    BTW...so far this season he's pitched 27.1 innings with 5 BB's and 59 K's.

                      Re: 100 MPH!!!

LOL I love how you guys are talking like you know the guy.

I don't mean it like that, I just mean that it sounds awesome for me to know somebody and then to hear about him publicly like "Oh he's supposed to be this, he's supposed to be that." It's kind of cool to hear. Like I was once quoted in the Union Tribune article for skateboarding on SDSU campus, and it was funny reading comments about "Oh, Robinson said this blah blah." Just an interesting spin on things.

At any rate, I'm going to the game tonight and he's starting. If I can find a digital camera I'll record some video and put it up (chances are I'll be low down the third base line, if you guys don't mind that angle).

And if it means anything, he didn't seem like "the ****" freshman year like he is now. It's funny how one no hitter can give you attention like it gave him.

EDIT: Well, in a slightly sad turn of events, he didn't pitch tonight. Don't know why... maybe he was better suited for tomorrow or something (which of course I can't go to the game because I have to work at the softball stadium tomorrow, go figure). Oh well, didn't get to record that video of him.

I actually find his command and control stellar. He knows the situation... and it's almost like he knows when players will chase and when they'll leave it alone. He makes them chase his nasty curve way out of the zone, and then leaves them stone-cold like statues with the edge of the plate fastball for the backwards K.

This kid is going to have a nice career in the bigs.

I watched Bard pitch last night, he was mainly around 98-99 with his fastball according to the pitch speeds shown on fsn.

Speak of the Devil. USSM has a post today quoting Gammons that Boras is going to try to get a $50m rookie contract for Strasburg.

Stephen Strasburg struck out 15 of the 25 batters he faced last night, and his season line now stands at 34 1/3 IP, 7 BB, 74 K. That's a 19.4 K/9. But you

I can't wait to see this guy pitch.
The crazy thing about him is he can really pitch. Even when he was throwing 92 as a freshman at SDSU, his numbers were really good out of the bullpen. Not just a hard thrower, even though he throws harder than anybody.
