I'm hoping they both do and that San Diego signs him (yeah right)... San Diego would pass on him and take some local scrub.

That's way too much though to commit. It doesn't matter how great he is, that is WAY too much to commit to a rookie. You never know what could happen, nobody is a sure thing in baseball.

In case you forgot, last year the Nationals failed to sign their top draft pick, Aaron Crow (9th overall), because of money disputes. He could have been a top three starter for the Nats for the next decade but Bowden couldn't get a deal done. If they pass on or fail to sign another pitching talent because of money, one being called the best ever at his level I might add, I'm done with the franchise. Period.

          Re: 100 MPH!!!

In every year since they started playing this game, you always here about this "can't miss" high school or college player who can walk on water etc, etc. All I am saying that most of them never get out of triple A. Having the "stuff" is one thing, translating that into the majors is a whole different story. So I don't think the fact that someone throws the ball at 100 or 102 or 112 automatically enshrines them in the HOF. It merely suggests that he has a tool most don't. But there are many HOF pitchers who never threw near 1ooMPH so speed thrills, but that's all it does.

No kid who has never played pro ball is worth 50 million. If Boras is actually successful in landing a contract of that magnitude I'll be pissed. Considering he couldn't even get that for Manny, I doubt he will succeed.

Well it depends on how many years. Obviously $50 in one year is far different from $50 in twenty years.

I haven't spoke to the guy since this fall, but have their been any interviews on him saying he may want to play out one more college year? Or is everyone pretty much just expecting him to leave at this point and he has to go with that?

50 million is 50 million since all contracts are guaranteed. Manny's 45 isn't even coming over two years, its basically spread over 5-6 years anyways. Boras should advise him to come out as soon as possible, since any new labor deal coming over the next couple years is probably going to include some salary restrictions on drafted players.

Yeah but if it's 50 mill for 7 years, that's different than 50 mill for 2 years since the guy who signed for 2 years can get a new contract sooner, therefore earning a lot more money. Manny might be getting paid over 5 years but his contract ends before that so he can sign another 20 mill AAV contract.

In the history of MLB draft how many pitchers drafted with the first pick over all been better then a 500 pitchers in the majors?
I could understand if the Nats passed on this guy because of the money demands. From a marketing point they will need to draft and sign this so call next pitching phenom.

That's a good point. Most of the time they are a miss. But on the other hand the Andy Benes's, Ben McDonalds, Brien Taylors, and Mike Moores of the world were never as dominating as Strasburg is leading up to the draft. There's never been anyone in college baseball to dominate like Strasburg. He is a first ever of this caliber in college and I don't believe there's a good direct comparison to use on him.

And I agree with you that the Nats have to draft him unless they want a major PR nightmare on their hands.

I've followed the MLB draft for the past 5 years or so, and no one within that time frame has been hyped up as much as this kid. Honestly, how many people on here have ever even talked about the MLB Amature Draft in March, 3 months before it even takes place?

Daniel Bard went on my recruiting visit to Notre Dame with me but obviously chose UNC, where I wanted to go. Good job UNC on picking him over me! However I wonder what would have happened to me had I gone to UNC...maybe you guys would be talking about me.

Anyways Bard has a crazy smooth arm action and the ball explodes out of his hand.

Daniel Bard's one of my all-time favorite college pitchers. I love his arm action.
