HH wins in the gameplay department, by far. ASB is prettier and a nice game, but the gameplay issues are too much to overcome. Think about it. In HH, you will never have a fielding gaff. You will never have a contol problem with fielders. You will never have a baserunning gaff. The CPU runs perfectly. The pitching is awesome. Same with hitting. You never hear anyone say they have any issues with the fielding, hitting or pitching. In ASB, sometimes the baserunner doesn't run so that two guys end up on the same base. Sometimes, fielders don't pursue foul balls so that they drop untouched. As for the pitching, you cannot walk with any realistic consistency in any other game other than HH. In HH, you will "feel" the nail biting nervousness when you pitcher is struggling with control and the game is on the line. No other game does this. Not ASB. Not MVP. Not WSB. HH is the only game where you can feel the frustration of actually giving up a walk. In ASB, the user has to manufacture a walk (attempting to hit the corner and then missing). Also, HH has the most realistic pitch counts. Truly an immersive game.
Now, HH's problem is the graphics. In fact, when I first played it, I hated it. I traded in MVP for it and regretted that decision. I spent some time with the game and realized that great graphics attract, but gameplay retains. That's why so many HH gamers are coming back. However, I fear for all HH gamers that this series may not be around much longer if the graphics don't improve. In fact, it might not be around if the graphics do improve because its getting a bad reputation now which will affect future purchases. We will all be losers if this is the case. Think about it. There is not a single gameplay issue (other than the PS2 bug). You will always make the plays you should, unless you make the mistake. The groundball flyball ratio is right on, whereas in ASB it is skewed heavily toward fly balls.
Don't get me wrong, ASB is a great fun game. It sure looks nice. But WSB is the closest to HH. HH has the best gameplay bar none. You can take that to the bank. It is still the true baseball fan's game. That's the problem. Without great graphics, HH may be done inthe future and true baseball fans who want that realism and tight gameplay will be the losers.
