    Re: 42

And remember people this is really recent history. It may seem like hundreds of years ago to some of you but trust me it's not. I actually knew a guy who was a Negro League catcher. He died a few years ago though. A drinking buddy down at my local hole in the wall. Infact alot of those older cats in there couldn't even think about being MLB players. These aren't some old dudes in hospital beds about to die tomorrow, or some pages in a book, these are real life walking around chasing tail getting drunk people so this isn't "history" to them. This is real life to them.

    More power to "42"

good thread, good post, mamed at the end though. whoa is me? I'll leave it alone since we cant talk politics or race or anything here, but your post could have done without the last part about "not having a fair shot at your dreams" I mean, if you dont have a fair shot at your dreams then, well, nevermind I wont get into it. just saying that you didnt need to add that last part in there to make a post about wearing the number 42.

Yeah you're right, my bad. I should have not talked about what is real and still needs work on. Hmmm, our Attorney General seems to have no problem speaking whats real but I guess I should be a "good boy and just move along" yes sir officer sir. I'sa be good boss.

You know what would be helpful, if we NOT try to claim we know all about another man's experience. You know NOTHING about me and what I've been through in life so DO NOT try to dismiss it. So let's get that understanding right now.

            Re: 42

I am glad that they remember Jackie and the things he did under the worst possible conditions. He was one in a million. But things like everyone wearing his number is nothing more than window dressing. MLB has already retired his number from ever being worn again. I applaud this as the least mlb could do. But I do think it would also be proper that mlb do the same for Babe Ruth, if not for him baseball would have gone the way of the doodoo bird because of the infamous "black sox" scandal. Ruth was never honored by baseball in the way he should have. And I'm not comparing him to Mr. Robinson and the things he had to endure, I am only saying that right is right. And that's my 2 cents worth.

Being someone who is born and raised in the Bronx and a die hard Yankees fan I'll say that Ruth and Robinson aren't even in the same debate dude. When they brought out Ruth's bat on opening day and laid it on homeplate and all the other things they do for Ruth is good enough for me. Robinson's plight is on a whole other category. It's not necessary for all of MLB to do anything specific for Ruth.

I know I'm a bit late, but I preferred it being optional. To me, it has more meaning when a player chooses to represent #42 in that manner.

Still, it's good that MLB is still actively recognizing the accomplishment and helping get his amazing story out there. There are still many people who don't understand just what Jackie Robinson's success really meant and what he had to go through to achieve it.

                        This claim.

MLB politics? What does 42 have to do with MLB politics? Seriously.

As for the social causes, the players should be more than happy if they see the number 42 as a 'social cause'. For everything Jackie did for baseball and for equality and for everything Rachael Robinson continues to do they should be honored.

It just ticks me off to see someone take a day of celebration for the game of baseball and try to find something negative out of it and make blanket statements and not explain anything. I'd to see an explanation on what this has to do with MLB politics. I'm surprised I'm the only person who finds the highlighted text as reckless.

First of all, I dont understand why you dont get it. Secondly, nothing I said was sinister or anti-Jackie Robinson. Again, youre really not getting traction here. Furthermore, everything was adequately explained...at least for most.

well, I find the origional post "reckless" I mean why make a Jackie Robinson thread and throw in how you still dont have a fair shot at your dreams, then he followed it up with his yssa boss comments, etc.

Its funny you ignore those posts and cling to the post that says MLB players shouldnt be billboards or used to further MLB politics.

What he meant was, all MLB players wore 42. It wasnt an option for them, therefore how "good" can it be? While its good they respect what JR did, they didnt do it cause they respect him, they did it cause selig told them to do it, which is messed up when you look at it like that. This is what he was saying, or at least that is my understanding of it.
