Re: What's with all the HRs this year?
One official of the Yankees has already called it a joke. He said that routine fly balls in most parks are turning into homeruns here.
During the Cleveland game, both sides were apparently in complete shock when Teixeira's second homerun of the four game series left the park. Players all said it was a routine pop-up that turned into a home run.
Jorge Posada said the wind was blowing out to right pretty crazy during the weekend but thinks things will calm down.
Buster Olney has hinted that the Yankees are already privately worried about the results. But they cannot petition for a structural change until next season.
At this current pace, the ballpark is expected to see 400 homeruns. Old Yankee Stadium had under 200 last season."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Also, I heard something about Alex Rodriguez telling hitting coach Kevin Long that he cannot wait to play at the park.
Long said to him: "Just hit it to right field."
And that's a scary thing, I think. Alex Rodriguez is at his best when he drives the ball the other way. If he can drive the ball to right field consistently, his final season numbers won't even look like he missed a month."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: What's with all the HRs this year?
The old Yankee stadium had more stacked tiers and a large upper deck, acting like a solid wall in effect, which would cause the wind to swirl more and be less concentrated. The new Yankee stadium's tiers are less stacked, making a less sharp slope from the top of the stadium to the field. This shape could enable winds to blow across the field with less restriction. In addition, the slope of the seating would also lead to a "downslope" effect in the field which, depending on wind direction, would tend to cause air to lift up in the right field. Fly balls going into right field during a gusty west wind would be given more of a lift thus carrying the ball farther out into right field.
If the stadium seating tier shape is indeed the issue, games will only be affected during times with the winds are from a westerly direction and above 10 mph. This typically occurs during the spring and the middle to late fall. The calmer weather during the summer should lead to a smaller number of home runs. In the meantime, the home run derby may continue.

Ok, that's hilarious because shouldn't these things be done before you build the Stadium?
I just feel like that above data is only confirmed because we already know what's happening so a guy is just saying "here, here" and pointing out what works.
How could no one have known that this would happen when they were designing the thing?*

Every team does this kind of data. I think I heard NYS was supposed to play almost identical to old Yankee Stadium or am I mistaken on that?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Now everyone is surprised that it isn't. I just don't understand how they had this supposed data and were this off. And now people are coming out of the wood works saying they have accurate data.
Now? After they built the thing?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Yea, that's what I'm saying. They said that data showed it would be identical.

They probably also didn't take into consideration the marine layer.Comment
