Re: WTF IS UP WITH THE ASTROS!

Astros do have a history of starting off slow. I'll tell you what it is. Its Jimmy Williams. The minute I heard he was comin to Houston, I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The guy doesn't not know how to coach I'm sorry. Yeah he has a good winning record, but its all about the playoffs. And a guy who hasn't proven himself to be able to win in the playoffs coming to a Houston team? Where we are notorious for choking in the playoffs? Just didnt seeem like the best move to me. Then on top of that he's from the AL. NL style play is totally diff. He's tryin to use AL tactics in the NL. Not gonna work. Plus, the Astros are accustomed to playing a certain style of play. Then Jimmy comes in and totally changes everything up.

I don't know why everyone was so quick to get rid of Dierker. I think everyone wanted to use him more of a scapegoat than anything. Ahhh, blame it on Dierker. Thing about with Dierker is that he has BEEN with the Astros organization for YEEEEARS, even played for them. So he knows the team and their style of play. Also, when he was managing we won the NL Central Division title 4 out of 5 years. Mistake letting him go I thought.

A friend of mine and I are always "Wagner-bashing." We don't like the guy. Yeah he's good don't get me wrong, but he be scarin me when he goes up. Its like... ohhhh no here comes Wagner. He always lets on about 3 runners on at least before he finally gets the save. Or he'll give up HRs to guys like Macias. I dont know maybe we're a little harsh on him but I've always said lets trade the fu**er. Im sure we could get somethin pretty good for him for all the money we payin him. Get another good SP, move Dotel to closer(go Ducky!) and let Lidge be the new setup man. That would be ideal.

Also, I've always wanted to make a deal with the Expos. My cousin plays for the Expos. YOu might know him. Javier Vazquez? Well I think if we got him it would be all lights out! Oswalt, Vazquez, and Miller? Ohhh man! And he'd be a great fit for Houston. He has a very humble personality and he's a workhorse. Plus I know the fans would love him in Houston. I talked to him about it last time he came down(to Houston), and he said, yeah he wouldn't mind playing for Houston. It wouldn't be bad. But his real passion was to play with the D-backs or the Braves. Only get to see him a couple times a year though since Expos only come into town rarely. Trade them Wagner and Lane for my cousin? Lane is gonna be pretty good when he gets a chance to play consistantly. Reminds me a lot of Lance Berkman.

I knew Bagwell was gonna have a good season. He was playing injured all last season. He could barely even throw from first. It was painful just to watch him attempt a throw from first. I'm glad to see him back to form. OH I almost forgot. I got another theory why the Stros are doin so crappy. Batting order. I think they need to put Berk back at 3. He did really well there his first season there and last year too. Baggs is a diverse player. He can hit from any spot pretty much. Hes a superstar. He'll put up his #'s eventually regardless where you place him. Berk cant, in my opinion. At least not yet. He hasn't matured enough as a player to do so. I say put Berk at 3, Bags at 4, Kent at 5. I think that is our biggest problem. B/c only 1 of the 3 is producing runs, and its just not enough. We're putting too much pressure on our pitching by not scoring enough runs and I think thats really hurting us.

DOnt give up on the Stros just yet. As long as they're in pace with the Cards, there is always a chance. Astros are a 2nd half team and I think once they get in gear, the ball will start to roll, just as it did last season.

I don't really have a problem with Jimy. I was, however, not in favor of replacing Larry Dierker. He was a winner and can he be blamed for the players failing to perform in the post season?

I think he managed the pitching staff more effectively, because Williams tends to yank the starter early rather than let them work their way out of trouble as Dierker did.

One wierd thing I heard was Jimy Williams called Berkman into his office one day to get on to him about taking a sip of water during the national anthem. Lance is no punk, he is in the mold of Bagwell.

Why did the Stros sign Jeff Kent who cost a crapload for a 2nd baseman, when they might have had a chance of signing a better pitcher or releiver? Not trying to say they have a bad pitching staff, but I do think they gave Kent an upperhand in that deal, and Biggio in center sucks.

I think firing Larry Dierker was wrong...Jimy Williams isn't an AL guy. He coached for Bobby Cox with the Braves forever. Besides, other than scouting reports (which the manager has nothing to do with) and the double switch (which is pretty frickin' easy, and bunting more often...it's the same game in the AL and NL. Williams' problem is that people hate him wherever the hell he goes. Toronto media ate him alive, Boston media ate him alive, and now Houston hates him. Players hate playing for him. I don't see how an organization that fires Terry Collins hires a guy like Jimy Williams. Now I don't follow Houston that closely, so I may be off, but they're both intense and abrasive and generally unpopular. What the 'stros need is a return to the good ole' days. Art Howe, Casey Candaele, and Glenn Davis.

I couldn't agree more, I'm a Giants fan and I was glad to see that guy go. The 'Stros got ripped on that deal, bigtime! Kent is nothing special when not hitting next to Bonds. He's also a problem in the clubhouse, several Giants players have been quoted on saying how well their team gets along now. Hmmm, maybe it was Kent that was the jerk?

I gotta feel for the 'stros pitchers though, that's a tough park to pitch in. I'm also surprised they gave up on Reynolds.
If they did feel the need to move on from Dierker, why didn't they get somebody from their own organization, I think Jose Cruz has earned a shot at managing.
