    Palmeiro-Hall of fame? or Not

Jayson Stark and Rob Neyer make the case for, and against, the Rangers' slugger being inducted in Cooperstown.

2 homers away from 500..Anyone who hits 500 home runs should get a huge amount of consideration for th HOF.

I agree with Bob Neyer (on the 'no' side).

Sure, he's going to hit 500 home runs.. Sure, he's led the league in hits before.. But even with all of this, he's never won an MVP, and isn't even the best player at his position in his own league! Giambi is better than him.. and in the NL, Bagwell is way better..

I'm not sold on putting Palmeiro in the Hall Of Fame.

No question, he's in. He's been consistant for 15 years at the plate and on defense. Tou KNOW he's gonna get his numbers every year.

Even though i'm a homer, i have to agree. He is in without a doubt. There is no way they can keep out a player with 500+ dingers and over a .290 average. He is also solid defensively, and has never been a dh full time. He's in.

So, you're saying Eddie Murray doesn't belong in the hall either.

In and not because of the 500 homers, he has hit for a good average, decent OBP driven in a lot of runs and is a good fielder. If he has not a HOF, then you are setting a really high bar, in which only players like Bonds will get in, so basically you would be only getting one or two guys a generation in the HOF.

Never winning an MVP shouldn't be a factor... that's means if a guy gets a fluke year, wins MVP, then he'll get in the HOF... MVP is a one-year award... HOF rewards for an excellent career and that's what Rafie has had... I say he'll be easily.
