Hall of Fame Pyramid
There has been much debate about whether Rafael Palmeiro belongs in the hall with the likes of Babe Ruth, Ted Williams etc. Well all this debate would be moot if the Hall had levels of greatness. here is the article " target="_blank">Here is an article written by Bill Simmons</a> that argues for exactly that. It is an interesting idea and it might be fun to debate who should be on what level. Lets confine our debate to people not yet in the hall of fame and where they would go if they got in.

Re: Hall of Fame Pyramid
Too late, already found the link in the other thread....
Very interesting, I'd have to say I wouldn't be entirely opposed, but maybe cut down to 3 levels.
Will never happen, but interesting indeed...Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Hall of Fame Pyramid
My pyramid
Level 5 - Pantheon
It's hard to put anyone from our own time in here. I don't think anyone today is at that level though these two fourth level guys could be.
Barry Bonds (Most dominant player of the last 4 years, but before that was a postseason washout. Still no World Series, though he made up for alot of his postseason struggles last season)
Roger Clemens (Hate to admit it, but its true. 6 Cy Young awards, 300 wins soon. 4000 K's soon too. 2 Championships. The only argument I can make against him being a level 5 is that he wussed out of the WS in 86 and I just plain don't like him. And despite what my bio says, I am from NY not Boston, I just live in boston. I am not a bitter Red Sox fan)
Remaing Level 4 - Elite
Randy Johnson
Sammy Sosa
Mark McGwire
Pedro Martinez (If you have ever been to a Sox game when he pitches, you will tell your grandkids about the greatest pitcher you ever saw. His career numbers have a ways to go, but if he stays healthy he's a 4 easily. Automatically becomes a 5 if he brings a championship to beantown)
Level 3 - Great, but not level 4 great
Greg Maddux
Rickey Henderson
Mike Piazza
Alex Rodriguez (well on his way to 4)
Level 2 - Good for a long time
Rafael Palmeiro
Cal Ripken Jr.
Tony Gwynn
Roberto Alomar (3 before he came to the Mets)
Tom Glavine
Dennis Eckersely
John Franco
Lee Smith
Level 1 - Debatable, but in.
Jim Rice
Fred McGriff
Ryne Sandberg
Curt Schilling (could make it to 2 or 3)
Ken Griffey Jr. (Without injuries he's a 3 or 4)
Don Mattingly (without injuries he's a 2 or 3)
Paul Molitor (DH)
I'm sure I am forgetting some guys, but that will just add to the debate fuel, lets hear it.Comment

Re: Hall of Fame Pyramid
LEVEL 5
Barry Bonds-If he breaks the HR record that'll make it an automatic but he's already a 5 in my book because he's become the most dominant hitter in MLB baseball at an age when guys are supposed to be in the twilight of their career.
Roger Clemens- For all the reasons Pfunk listed. Also you have to remember that he and Maddux are the last guys who will ever make 300 wins in their careers. So the bar for automatic admission into the hall for Starters is going to drop.
